Stopping by again. 26 years later and this is video still holds up as some of the finest sailing you will ever see. Nice one fellas.👍

The biggest lesson I learnt sailing skiffs is to be brave and always set the spinnaker. The boat is more stable with them. This is still one of the best displays of survival sailing ever!

Holy moly. 2024 and I've never watched a video about racing sailboats. But this one had me smiling and appreciate what I was seeing!

Love it this shit never gets old. The commentators are as good as the sailors.

absolutely the sailing is just insane and the commentators have complete "the boat is turning into a banana" energy

I watch this every few months for inspiration. Timeless classic...plus who doesnt love the "Ripper Cam"?
@heftyordinanceindividual4015 Жыл бұрын
The ripper cam is the best invention in the history of sailing. Only the comically long tiller extensions even come close.

People are unaware of how helpful genakers are at stopping you from nosediving one these conditions lol, amazing sailing

Like most viewers it seems, I keep coming back to this brilliant footage and fantastic commentary. Nokia crew must have balls like watermelons, staggering.
@PeterLaFontaine-h8b8 ай бұрын
Seriously still one of the best sailing videos ever. You have to the kite because you'll just nose dive again and again

The problem with watching this video is that every other 'extreme' sailing video now pales in comparison...
@ianedmonds91915 жыл бұрын
Yeah. This about the most extreme sailing I've ever seen. Skiffs do work best with the kite up though. The kite adds some lift and stops the bow digging in. It was clearly the best decision. Maybe it just took some balls. Luv and Peace.

Have you seen Ragamuffin at 38 knots?!
@user-xi9py8es1s3 жыл бұрын
@@johnwebb5879 yeah thats pretty extreme also. But thats a 100 foot yacht. Considering these things are 18 feet long I would say this is more extreme.

@benletsbenatural3476 жыл бұрын
I know it's gutsy and scary to do, but you can see how much the boat stabilises with the kite up as opposed to trying to go downwind 2 sail.
@sailworldnzl6 жыл бұрын
yes it was apparent on the water too.
@allistar69336 жыл бұрын
Anyone who has sailed a Skiff knows that a Gennaker actually creates a lot of lift in the bow and helps to stop the nose dives. Still ballsy as though. Much respect.
@ianedmonds91914 жыл бұрын
@@allistar6933 You'd be mental not to put it up downwind. The Gennaker balances the helm. It becomes MUCH MUCH easier to steer and balance the boat. Sailing an L4K we'd persevere upwind for hours then fly downwind with three sails in twenty minutes. Skiffs are so asymmetric... :-) Luv and Peace.
@johnmichaels24953 жыл бұрын
Never raced a skiff, but on E-scows in heavy wind, it's practically suicidal to do a downwind without a kite. Without it the boat is almost uncontrollable.
