Symphonic black metal would be closer to the mark than atmospheric black metal, which is more akin to the Burzum-style. This is more like Emperor.

This is my absolute favorite Nokturnal Mortum song, they are of the few bands that their entire catalog is enjoyable. I think most bands lose steam & become quite bland within the first ten years ( Metallica, Slayer - even Celtic Frost has "Cold Lake"; classic 70's bands - KISS, Sabbath, Aerosmith - the list goes on & on). Sure I don't care for NM political views but I don't listen to them for their lyrics(most of them are in Russian anyway)I listen to them for the killer riffs, song structure and no two albums sound alike. Fucking METAL!!!!

Every album is different however there are deliberate sounds and motifs that pull all of the albums together. It’s very thoughtful.

I heard they have renounced their political views which made them so controversial. People grow and change, especially when they gain perspective. If anything it was an apology and sign that they understood that in Ukraine there is a need for unity of all tribes.
