The legend speaks the truth once again. I have been running my channel for several years now, and so many of the points you raised I have had to face over time too. My biggest piece of advice to new KZbinrs is this is a marathon, not a sprint. For most of us, you won't get instant results. It takes time, practice, patience, and a bit of luck. Some of my best videos with over 100k views had a very slow start. Don't give up, don't lose focus of your goals and dreams, and work hard to get there..........oh, and listen to Nolan 😀

Good content and great strategy. As a small content creator on KZbin, I know how hard it is to gain traction and attention from the beginning. Like many of you guys, I was tired of creating quality content almost every day and getting only a few hundred views on my best days. After that, I tried using some tools to ramp up my social presence, and honestly I don't regret it. Consistency, hard work (and a little bit of Famester) always pays off somehow.

i have over 140,000 subscribers & KZbin was my full time job since 2010, and NOW im about to become homeless, all my time, effort, blood , sweat and tears down the drain all for nothing, all due to youtube changing up the website way to many times, youtube used to send out numerous notifications a day now they only send out 3 a day, plus the algorithm is messed up as well, half my subs dont even get my videos anymore, its sad that this was my full time job now ill be homeless living in a tent in a couple of weeks! Unreal! as much as i love my subs and fans, it goes to show you that it doesn't matter how many subs you have in 2024!

A LOT of truth here. KZbin is hard! I've created 2 successful real estate businesses and have years of business experience. I have found that creating a KZbin channel from scratch is probably more challenging than my real estate businesses! Here's an interesting question: How does the algorithm decide how many impressions to give a video? What I mean is, does the algorithm judge your video and then give impressions based on how good IT thinks the video is? I think it does but I don't think we will get a straight answer from anyone about that. This is what GPT says: Yes, the KZbin algorithm does analyze a video even before it has any views and uses that analysis to determine how many initial impressions to give the video. Here’s how it works: 1. Video Content Analysis: Automatic Transcription: KZbin generates automatic captions for videos, allowing it to analyze the spoken content. This helps in understanding the context, topics, and potential relevance to certain audiences. Visual Analysis: KZbin uses image recognition technology to analyze the visual content of the video. This includes detecting objects, scenes, and even text within the video. Audio Analysis: Besides transcribing speech, KZbin analyzes background music, sound effects, and other audio cues that could indicate the video’s genre, tone, and mood. 2. Metadata: Title, Description, Tags: Even before any views, the algorithm uses the video’s metadata to determine what the video is about. This information helps KZbin decide which users might be interested in seeing the video. Thumbnail: The thumbnail is also analyzed for visual content, which can influence how the video is categorized and who it is shown to. 3. Channel History: Channel Authority: If the video is uploaded by a channel with a strong history of high-performing content, the algorithm might give it more initial impressions, even before any engagement data is available. Upload Consistency: Regularly uploading videos that perform well can lead to more initial impressions for new videos. 4. Comparison with Similar Content: Similar Videos: The algorithm compares the new video to existing videos with similar content. If similar videos have performed well, the new video might be given more initial impressions to test its performance. Historical Data: KZbin considers how videos with similar topics, styles, or formats have performed in the past when determining how many impressions to allocate initially. 5. Content Compliance: Community Guidelines: The algorithm checks for potential guideline violations. If the video seems to push boundaries, it may receive fewer initial impressions. Advertiser-Friendliness: Content that is more likely to be considered advertiser-friendly might receive more initial impressions. 6. Testing Phase: Initial Impressions: KZbin often gives a small number of initial impressions to test how a video performs. This testing phase helps the algorithm gauge viewer interest and engagement before deciding whether to give the video more impressions. Refinement: Based on early data from these initial impressions (e.g., click-through rate, watch time, engagement), the algorithm adjusts how many further impressions to give the video. So, even with 0 views, the KZbin algorithm analyzes the video’s content, metadata, and channel history to determine its potential interest to viewers. This analysis helps decide how many initial impressions the video will receive, setting the stage for further exposure based on actual viewer interactions.

Good question. The algorithm does things randomly. I had a video with good CTR and good average view duration. The video got a lot of engagement as well But after it reached around 400 views, the views just stopped abruptly because it stopped getting impressions. No idea why. I didn't change anything or mess with any settings.

Anyone who drops off a video in 30 seconds wasn't really interesting in the topic. Sure that first 30 seconds needs to be well thought out etc. but losing a third of the audience that quickly probably had nothing to do with how the video was presented...they were just suggested a video they thought they wanted to watch and they didn't. It also could be a result of perhaps the thumbnail and title appealed,but those maybe were misleading as to the actual content

Facts 💯. Most viewers would be considered problematic when being measured by the algo. We all do it, this is why I try to only click on videos that I know I want to see. Also I don’t click on videos with over the top thumbnails, because most of the times those are the videos that are fishing for views with no real value in my experience for the things I watch. And I’m sure I’m not the only one.

What I feel difficult about starting a channel is when you talk about addressable market. I started seriously about 2 weeks ago and I’m posting 1 long form video and a short everyday, sometimes I do 2 of each, I gained 400 subs so far so it’s doing ok right now. Learning everything on the fly has been a challange.. I think the volume of posting works for my channel because it is kind of like a review page. My watch hours are at 2900 so I’m getting closer to that 4k! Fingers crossed all this work keeps it growing.

Hey Nolan, thank you for making this video. I enjoyed it and I'll try to take all the 13 tips into consideration. My channel is up and running and writing my first script for my first video. I am scared of what people think about my accent because English is not my main language and being in front of a camera is not really my thing but I'm giving this a shot. Wish me good luck!
@Ty_Myers
@Ty_Myers 6 ай бұрын
@ivenstorintellecIQ being scared is natural and part of the process. Your English is likely better than you think it is, as we're always our own worst critics. I'm in the same boat as you (except I'm a native English speaker), where I'm just getting my first videos posted. I'm also scared what other will think but I know I'll grow thicker skin as I go and I know I'll be able to accept imperfection as I go as well. So it's important to get those initial videos posted to get beyond those first steps. You got this!

All good stuff. Thanks. I like #10 and I'm to intentionally doing exactly that. I'm intentionally mashing fitness and technology together, along with whatever else I happen to get into (I'll start doing motorcycle stuff again in a bit). I'm well aware that I could do 1 or the other and probably go faster. However, I see this as a marathon and building the channel I want is more important to me than growing in a niche that I'll eventually get bored with. I also notice that other (already) successful creators eventually end up where I'm already going. Peter McKinnon is supposed to be all about photography. He sure does spend a lot of time doing just about anything but photography on his channel.

I'm learning that you really have to research to come up with good video ideas. The next videos I'm making are based on me identifying the channels in my niche that are doing well. I made note of the people or topics that were the highest performing on those channels. That's how I'm able to know what video to make next. This is the type of research that will benefit you before you even start working on the next video you wanna make.

Because if they are not recommending your videos to anyone how will anyone even get a chance to look at your content….Do you tend to see your views and impressions go up during the month of October? Because that’s when they should for sure boost your content.

@@LifeOfViette 28K impressions, 1.5 click through rate. Suggested, browse and search are all under 20%. I think it is because a woman who had the same amount of subs as I did exploded to a million subs but I was doing fine until she changed her name to something similar to mine. Maybe. I spent 7 years branding that name. I was featured on other channels, wrote a book, been on talk shows and interviews but now when they search "spooky boo" they no longer get me, they get her. Years of work wasted.

My "niche" is my audience and not a "topic" per se. What do you feel about that concept? For example, let's say my niche is single parents, and not the topic of "Parenting"? Would that work? I ask because the target audience of single parents may do more than just "Parenting", they may like homeschooling videos, dating advice for single parents, cooking videos, shopping on a budget, etc. where "parenting" as a topic is nothing but videos on that one subject and is very broad because it could include anyone who is a parent, single or not.

I wanted my niche to be just being a dad. Which entails my trucking company and family life. I was going to niche down on the trucking company, but a lot of people hesitate because of time away from family. So I thought showing both to show I've found a balance. This could be hurting my view count

IP address plays a huge role in this as well guys. Don’t be fooled. YT has a lot cooking in the background. If you never experienced it then you will never know. Lots of creators don’t realize that their watch time gets cut down when people speed up the video. If you watch a video on 2x speed that creator will only get half the watch time even if you are watching the full video. So I’m sorry. We can’t keep acting like it’s just the thumbnail and 30s only. If it’s not being pushed out then no one will ever have the chance to even click on your video to begin with. IP plays a big part.

True. And these creators who claim to give tips on how to gtow on youtube dont even have tips for those with niche outside talking head videos. How about cover muwiciqns like me? I am doing thumbnails for my content too and mostly release a tutorial version of what I make a cover of. When i :as a beginnwr into music covers, i use my intro every start of my vidro but some of my viewers complained and said i could do without the intro for music covers. And i did just that.

@@ShanMichaelEscasio yes it varies greatly on what works for what. You would be better off looking a videos in your niche and seeing what the larger and mid size channels are doing and making something similar but unique to you. Everyone always wants to talk about Mr. Beast but his videos are for people who kids or young that want adrenaline rushes all the time. The extra camera movements, yelling, fast past videos could mess up the next creators video because the theme my require for it to be more reserved like a podcast.
