Come walking with me around Noli, one of the most interesting historical centers of western Liguria, in the Province of Savona.
The origin of the name may come from Neapolis, meaning "new city" in Greek.
This seaside village is enclosed in medieval walls, while Monte Ursino mountain houses the castle, overlooking the city.
We'll start our walk along the promenade, attractively lined with palm trees, passing near the beach, and then we'll walk around the historic center, with it's medieval towers, narrow streets and colourful houses.
As we wander the streets of Noli we also get glimpses of the castle high above the town and the ancient defensive walls that run through the trees and down the hillside to reach the town.
Outside the Medieval walls of the town we find the church of San Paragorio (sadly closed on the day I was there), an important monument of Romanesque architecture.
