Love how well the grass worked. I do wonder if you UVd one blade of grass and then duplicated/merged it around if it would retain the UVs as overlapping. May be worth trying. If so you could paint a gradient in Procreate allowing the grass to fade from dark to light bottom to top. Also if it worked, the same technique could be used on the eyes, allowing you to only have to paint one eye... I may have to try this as well

Irony in this workflow is that nomad already has better shading, lighting, post processing and pbr painting than procreate. Only advantage you’ll get is layers. So far procreates 3d features are just weird curiosity. But let’s see how they develop them. Probably we’ll have layers in nomad at that point 😄
@KeithTalbotArt3 жыл бұрын
well you already get layers in Nomad as well :D

@Jelkeludo3 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but I personally enjoy painting in procreate so much more. The brushes just work (or at least feel) better imo
@SouthernGFX3 жыл бұрын
Layers work really well in Nomad right now as Keith points out. The brush engine in Procreate is world class so let’s see how they develop the 3D. It is their first release with 3D so it’s going to change quickly. It may never grow beyond a curiosity. For example, I expected much more from their animation solution by now. Let’s not forget that the iPad itself was just a weird curiosity at one point and Steve Jobs didn’t want a pencil.
@sinisalomikko3 жыл бұрын
Yeah there´s layers but it still missing typical blending modes. So far it offers only layer opacity. I don´t find procreates 3d paint quite ready yet for my own liking since they buried basic roughness and metalness values inside brush editor. So i´m gonna wait and see how they develop it more usable in future.

So awesome and easy to do a very basic import as a total beginner. I’m realizing the importance of creating separate components in Nomad if you want the “masking” type control for painting. Presumably that is done with layers? Or is it each subsequent shape added is a new “part” that can be grouped with other parts to make up a component (like in AutoCAD programs)?

2 things: First when you “decimate” the vertex or polys you refer to in this video - where is that located? Second is that when I export to the Procreate what do I need to inure that my pain tools will apply to the location on the body. I always end up with the pen tool far from the point where I actually want to apply the paint… Again fabulous instruction!

This is awesome. Question how do I import UV- map back into Nomad from Pro Create?
@SouthernGFX3 жыл бұрын
I'm pushing this new update to the limit tonight. If it's on my iPad its getting a UV map soon lol. I tried it on my iPhone too kzbin.infocommunity We recently did a video showing how I found Procreate 5.2 in the first few days but the one frustration I was hearing online is that new users and none-3D artists were struggling with adding UV mapping to models to make them usable. UV mapping is the way most programs handle adding a texture map to a model. It gives the points in a model (vertex) a way to be displayed flat to make it easier to work on in programs like Photoshop and Procreate. It ‘unwraps’ the mesh and effectively lays it flat giving you a ‘U’ and ‘V’. Now, Nomad just got an update that allows you to make these UV coordinates in a very simple and straightforward way. This video shows you that workflow!

Hi, I have a question, how do you turn the uv texture map off and on again? I have a problem because I think my nomad defaulted at off so I can't see which object is uv mapped from the texture, I can only see it in the little orange (UV) text markings besides the layers, it's a bit of an inconvenience, I thank you a lot if you can explain this!

i think there is a mirror that worked for me im not quite sure how it works since i dont know procreate so well but if you go to that arrow topleft you will get a bar that says flip vertical horizontal etc if you hit "projection" there is a lil switch called bidirectional it... mirrored the sides for me, just make sure you're on the right layer. it will create a strange kinda white estimated outline around what it will mirror (also limit to projection depth which you can move in advanced setting, might have to detach it first to get the arrow). you might have to use selection or screen-visible side (< ps: word of warning the undo-display is buggy and its not a real-time mirror function.

Will they or have they implement(ed) Texturepainting into Nomand too? (On Android, there is no ProCreate or other App that can do that 😥) If yes, that would be awesome. Then you can finally draw sharp lines, and details without having to to subdivide the model into millions of polys, just for the sake of getting a clean stroke or stamp.

Hi! Sorry i have a question, is the 16gb ipad pro performance so much better than 8gb one? I want it just for some face/fullbody sculpting, Is 8gb enough?
@risaoram3 жыл бұрын
You’ll run out of space pretty quick with 8 gb if you’re doing a lot of modeling and saving files on the ipad/take a lot of videos/pics/have a lot of apps. I’m a space hog and opted for 512gb on a iPad Pro 4th gen. I’ve only had the ipad for a few months and already gobbled up more than 30gb of space with all the apps and file saving. I’d personally go as big as you can afford with hard drive space since you can’t really upgrade this space in the future. Other option is to continuously offload and save content to external drive or cloud storage. But you want enough space available to access your active models on the actual iPad while you’re working on them. But if its performance you are after, then I’d opt for the 5th Gen (2021) iPad Pro which sports the M1 chip. That’s where the magic is at.
@burr11433 жыл бұрын
@@risaoram Thank you so much for great advice, in my country apple products are so expensive so i just can afford cheapest m1 iPad, since I have an external harddrive I'm not concerned about space, but I'm worried about running out of ram(8gb), battery draining and crashing apps like nomad in big projects. Did you ever have this kind of issues with your iPad?
@risaoram3 жыл бұрын
@@burr1143 - I’ve only just discovered Nomad, so don’t have the skills to crash that yet. I have crashed some of the other RAM intensive 3D scanning apps (but those could be buggy too). My first super basic Nomad model was only 100k vertices and used about 100 MBs of RAM. I use Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Procreate and I think I’ve only experienced slow down after importing a Photoshop or Illustrator file that was quite large. I hear you on the price, I’m fortunate to have my work pay for my iPad. I’d still recommend the 16GBs, but that’s just me not wanting my tools to slow down my creativity.

Thanks Glenn. An excellent video tutorial, as usual. The basic problem I still struggle with in Nomad is the decimation process and reducing the number of vertices to an exportable level without completely destroying the details of my original model. I must be too thick to get it. I shall have to stick to painting in Nomad for the time being (which fortunately, by the way, I already find perfectly adequate for my own purposes and not obviously inferior to Procreate).
