Im not sure if you mentioned it but for those who are interested in living in the Caribbean, one of the coolest things about a CARICOM passport is that it allows you indefinite entry/stay/work in the CARICOM bloc (with a few exceptions)

@@WolfF2022 housing is affordable both to buy and rent. At least, in my opinion. As far as safety, there have been some issues with crime recently; mostly drug related. I live in a neighborhood where people look out for each other and leave my home/cars unlocked constantly. I've never been robbed nor have I ever felt unsafe. However, I urge people to take the same precautions they would anywhere: security/cam systems, awareness and of course, building report with neighbors.

I am a US citizen who will be retiring next year. It is my goal to have a very small (by a wealthy person's standards) aluminum yacht and live aboard in the Caribbean. For the most part I have no family left in the US and few friends. So I have no compelling reason to return to the US other than perhaps an infrequent tourist visit. Could someone perhaps steer me in the right direction as far as which Caribbean country would be the best choice to establish a "home base" and eventually seek citizenship, register my yacht, etc? Relevant issues are health care, income taxes on pensions, IRA's, 401k's, marine maintenance and repair facilities, and good communications infrastructure. I think you have been seeing America thru your father's eyes and thru the politics that he experienced for to long now to truly understand "America First" (Lower taxes, energy independence, farma independence, technology independence, more jobs, less business regulation, higher income for low and middle class and better opportunities for wealth, which in turn benefit and reward wealthy businesses with more revenue and the benefits go on and on) It is because politicians have not cared for America first that your father struggled with his citizenship and why you have had to go on this citizenship "hunt". America First is all about bringing back to the US everything that you are looking for in those other countries. It is not about somehow punishing Americans in other countries and bringing back "the slaves". But I get why you would "see" and talk about America First like that, it's not good for your business. Having said that I can see why you are proud to have a Saint Lucian citizenship. But until American still has a chance to turn around and take care of Americans First, I will not be giving up my US citizenship. I believe that after this Biden administration is done destroying what they can and proving to the people why the "American First" policies work, you will regret having given up your US citizenship.

Andrew, thanks for the video. For someone looking for their first passport, does it make more sense to have a country that potentially has tax free residency if someone decides to live there. Does that exist? From my understanding St Lucia doesn't offer this.Trying to weigh the pros and cons. Edit: I was able to figure this out. It's St Kitts or Antigua and Barbuda. Both are tax free if you have to leave there as a Plan B and earn your income there. St Lucia that's not the case

They pay a 10% sales tax and I think that would essentially become their state tax and they would add federal taxes on top. I took a vacation to St Lucia in 1996 and it is beautiful. My only complaint is that they run on St Lucia time, which means you’ll wait 3 hours for a pizza. Maybe it’s different now, but I doubt it. :) Having been raised in the US to move as quickly as possible if you ever want to make it, it was very hard to come to terms with their slow pace of life.

Went there to St Lucia when I was a kid about 7, and unforgettable trip. My dad is British and married to my mom (American) and he has a good friend who is also British and married a woman from there. Beautiful little island, but beware of racist scammers.

It was at uni with a bloke who did Voluntary Service Overseas in St Lucia: working in forestry. The bloke next to him got bitten by a snake. Nobody did anything except say goodbye, and he died. That was 1987. I'm sure it's better now!

It is a donation invested in government priorities like low-income housing or tourism development. The money is not returned.

Once again a very informative and eye-opening video. You mentioned in passing that "these passports don't generally pass down [to your children]". Since citizenship by birth or "regular" naturalisation can usually be passed down to the next generation, I wonder if other special conditions apply to these CBIs as well. For example, would you have the same rights and duties as any other citizen in case you'd actually go and live in the country of your CBI passport?

What are the pros of St Lucian citizenship or residence? Are the taxes much lower than the USA? I am thinking about saving 22 percent taxes from my home country and I need to live abroad for min 5 years to qualify. My pension or stock gains won't get taxed if I reside in another country apparently. I would rather spend that 22 percent tax money on traveling!!
