I definitely recommend saving up , I finally got a pair of oxys after 2 years and they are a life changer they’re really comfortable compared to my Menards/Home Depot Tool Belt Setup I mean they have held up pretty well but damn they’re uncomfortable. But Always keep the oxys in eyesight because there’s a lot of thieves in the commercial industry

Very informative video. I would love to see a video with all the tools in them and showing how you hang your gun as well as other people you’ve worked with. There are very little drywall videos in general and I feel like I should make a video tour of my tool belt setup.

I have a set of the dewalt nylon from Canadian Tire (also from home depot) that I've had for the last 6 years or so. I've liked them quite a bit. I'm in renovations, so I'm not wearing them every day, but for a set of bags under $100 they are awesome. They are starting to wear though, so I'm saving up for a set of Occidentals. I looked at diamondback and like some elements of their design but with how low some of the pockets hang, they would drive me nuts. Plus there is just something classic about the look of leather imo.

Love my oxys. I used the 7 bag framer. Thought about the hip pads because the belt just digs into my hips and the shit sucks!
@ibrazeau30445 жыл бұрын
Good to see you back! Thanks for the video. I have three all leather occidental setups (framer black leather, drywall, and general for the home)... love them. For the drywall tool pouch, I have a Stanley 10-550m fixed blade knife with sheath and I inserted it in the middle sleeve where the hammer loop is, it fits snug and the sheath protects the bag. The sheath is similar to the one you show in the video but is yellow instead. Otherwise, occidental has a pocket shield that can be inserted in any sleeve to protect the leather from cutting edges. Honestly, I purchased an ABS camping cutting board (the thin ones that can be rolled up) and cut it to fit, heat formed it, and folded it to fit the leather sleeve... cheaper then the pocket shield and I still have material for future use. One thing you never spoke about is suspenders! I have two sets and they help tremendously with distributing the weight. I hate pulling my pants up every 5 minutes and they help with that too. Also, the belt can be worn without cinching the belt too much. I cannot work without them anymore. Just yesterday I was fitting doors... had an impact driver, screw drivers, hammer, air bladder and handles and hardware on the belt. Suspenders really help! Your occidental leather color is Bordeaux. You can buy any shoe cream of that colour and it will match. I Neatsfoot oil my belts once a year to keep the leather pliable and healthy. And then I give them a shot of shoe cream to revive the colour and weatherize them. I don't need the belts to look new but I like them getting oiled up and protected for longevity. I have a pretty penny invested in them plus they help me make money... I treat them well. The rips in your big oxys can be fixed by occidental. I once sent a pouch in for repairs and it came back promptly and was as good as new. Once again, thanks for the video. Keep 'em coming!

AKRIBIS!!! Good as the Occi definitely are, I've been looking hard at options to retool my well-worn setup, coming up on 50 years at the carpentry trade. I've been surprised to learn that there's a new sherriff in town, if you want the damn best leather setup ever: Akribis Leather out of Canada. (If you hold absolutely to the Made-in-USA line, stop reading now... 'cause you'll be tempted.) Tool-specific layouts are very similar, but IMO improved: specifically by diagonal hammer and pry bar/paw holsters, standard bit holders, and built-in drill/driver clips and hooks. Still believe Occi belt/suspenders may be more comfortable, but even without yet having tried the bags themselves, my research leads me to believe I'm going to find the bags better ergonomically (I know---hard to imagine) and also maybe even better crafted for the long haul. You should definitely check 'em out. I'll report back after I get my hands on them. Company run by a carpenter just like us, they're in such high demand, they can only take orders one day a month! (I'm going all in with Akribis to start, thinking I will most likely end up with Ak bags on my tricked out Occi belt --- but the unique Ak belt may be more comfortablethan I can appreciate before strapping it on...)
@camb4803 жыл бұрын
Just got my first order from them. I got the R1HBD Max with an inverted hammer loop to start with. It’s going to take a while to break it in. You can tell it’s some tough, quality leather, I love the layout, things just work, and now that I have two good usable hammer holders on the bag (10 pocket carpenter bags have very poorly laid out hammer loops imo) I can throw a drill holster on my back right when I am putting on a steel roof or anything else I need a drill for more than a quick task. Wasn’t all that happy with my occidental stronghold tool case for right side (especially considering the price), it was just too awkward, this new bag is a big improvement, still love my occidental left hand bag, probably will go with akribis when it wears out though.

AWP's oil tanned leather belts are probably the best on the market besides Oxy's and possibly CLC's rig. But they're only $100 for a full set which is insane considering how long they last (years). I had a couple of sets before I migrated to Occidental.

@dustinedmiston81654 жыл бұрын
It’s leather bro! You literally let it dry it out so bad it became brittle. If you conditioned that leather once a month it wouldn’t look like that. It takes literally 2 min! Then they last forever. Brush it and condition it once or twice a month they will look great forever. The leather is like skin it will dry out eventually if not hydrated.
