Really astonishing that after so many generations Fiji Indians are so strongly connected to Indian culture and roots, given that they have not visited India even once in their lives. And there are kids these days in Indian cities who behave more American than Americans. Cant blame them. Kids go behind the cool and pop culture of the time. They do come back to their roots as they grow up.

You have to love Fiji man . The polite , friendly well spoken people , the fusion of , Fijian , Indian , Chinese and international cousins as well and of course the wonderful beaches. One set back for Fiji over the years has been the seasonal flooding, hurricanes and cyclones which puts the country on the back foot but Fijians are a resilient lot and they bounce back . I left Fiji in 1979 and visited regularly over the years but I haven’t been in the last 12 years and is long overdue . Hopefully be there soon.

Hi I'm from the Fiji Islands. Our Ancestors came here some 120 to 150yrs ago . Many brought here by the British to work in Sugar plantations and the Rest came freely some 100yrs ago . Yes we can talk in Fiji Hindi but can also understand and Speak Proper Hindi too . We are taught Hindi from a very young age in Schools . We can also sing amd Read in Sanskrit too ( Holy books ) .. The Majority Indian's Ancestors came from UP , then Bihar, Punjab, Gujerat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Rest of India . A Good number of Fiji Indian's have now migrated to NZ, Australia, USA and Canada. They are all doing good and very well Educated. Anyway the names of Towns, cities and places in Fiji are mostly Native Fijian names , not Indian's. And one other thing more than 90% Businesses are owned by Fiji Indian's.So don't get confused 😊

Yes , you are absolutely right those people were mostly from Awadh region of present UP state and also Bihar state as well - Because the Word "Girmit" is the broken word of English word "Agreement" !! I have read about these "Girmitiya Workers" in our Syllabus and Finally you have Shown us the Present Generation of those unfortunate workers taken through Indentured Emigration with false Impression of " Five Year Indentured Labour Contract" But Unluckily they couldn't come back to their Homeland !! It again gives a melancholic feeling to learn about the " Traceless History" of present generation about their Roots in India - So Sad !! The red and white flower in front of the fijian $50 note is called 'Tagimoucia' flower and it is very special to the native Fijians here. The flower is endemic to Fiji and not found anywhere else in the world but only on one island of Fiji. The name of that island is Taveuni. A Fijian legend says that many years ago a girl who lived on the island of Taveuni loved a man. Her father was the chief of Taveuni who was against her relationship and wanted her to marry the man of his choice, not the one his daughter loved. So she ran up to a hill and cried a lot. Some people say she cried for many days and died and some say she just fell asleep while crying. After some days a plant emerged from that place with red flowers where her tears fell. People around the world visit Taveuni in Fiji to see that flower. Im a Fiji Indian and thought of sharing this story here. There are many other interesting legends in Fiji. Ramram to all my brothers and sisters in India. Sending lots of love. And thanks for visiting Fiji.❤

I have been wanting to travel to Fiji since many months. I was shortlisting amongst Bali or Fiji for next trip. Bali seems to be very populated. Excited to see your tour, will help me make decision.
