absolute easiest to clean. I use a hose from the low Oxygen transfer kit, and connect the valve up to the Marks Keg washer and washi it out only using a gallon of hot water with PBW, and then rinsing with another kegs washer. Takes about 30 mins total and its ready to be sanitized. I am hoping that they come out with a pressurizable version someday soon.

Still love my Fermonster...addicted to seeing the fermentation activity...its just mesmerizing. One of my favorite shows is fermenting WY1728 (Scottish Ale) - lovely little fluffy blobs of yeast forming a powerful heat draft in the center of the fermenter that slowly churns the entire mass until the blobs grow too large to be sustained - then you get the fall out and a fine, compacted layer of trub and yeasty goodness. Fantastic Review...but I would miss the SHOW! Saw where a guy modded one of these on YT for pressure and with a central drain/trub dump...thought that was pretty neat.

Great Review. I always lean toward the modifiable properties of these larger items we employ for brewing. While they are marketed as fermenters, we can use them fully for many things around the brewhouse. I like the Blichmann and Anvil products. I have the Blichmann Brew Easy system, and the only drawback to it is the weldless fittings. Blichmann and I assume Anvil make quality equipment. Same goes for Spike. They all have pros and cons, what is challenging is evaluating our process to match the equipment available. Zum Wohl
@TheApartmentBrewer
@TheApartmentBrewer 2 жыл бұрын
True! You have to really know what you want out of the equipment first before buying it. They all have slightly different pros and cons to different people, but they aren't going to automatically make your beer better unless you have your process nailed down. Prost!

Love mine. Bought 2 in February. Definitely has its limitations but it's way better to have this than replace plastic buckets so often. I have like 6 buckets just hanging out now. I love not siphoning into the bottling bucket, but I tend to lose a bit more beer in the bottom of the bucket with the dip tube but at least it's not picking up yeast.

They're great! I use my old plastic buckets for starsan and cleaning etc now. The ball valve at the bottom is light years better than siphoning, you'll definitely pick up less oxygen this way.

I really like the Anvil Bucket Fermenter. Some flaws, but overall very good. I did have an issue with my first one rusting pretty badly. They replaced it, but it was a bit of a job to convince them that the fermenter was pitted and rusting, and not just covered in bits of old krausen.

I agree. I inverted mine, putting the 2" triclamp on the bottom for a bottom drain. I cut a hole for a 4" triclamp ferrule on the top and soldered it on. Way cheaper, way more versatile. Having said that, I still love the big mouth Fermonster 7 gallon fermenters. So light. Easy to clean. FYI, Starsan will get in any pore that yeast will get in.

I would suggest the SS Brewtech Brew Bucket instead. You have a lot of options with that one when it comes to lids. They come with a flat lid which has some of the same issues with closed transfer oxygen ingress as the Anvil but you can use any of the other SS Brewtech lids which fixes that. I use the domed lid from the Chronical which had a 1.5" tri-clamp opening along with their closed transfer kit made for that opening. They just introduced the Chronical II which has a 3" tri-clamp opening that also fits the bucket. I'm considering getting one of those to used a hop-drop attachment for dry hopping in the fermenter. There is also heating and chilling options for the SS Brewtech that I like but I skipped getting their heat accessory because being a bucket, the flat sides are well suited for wrapping an inexpensive Fermwrap around it. The bucket also has a deeper V bottom which keeps trub well below the ball valve pickup tube. However the ball valve itself is what they call a "mini" and although it works, I wish they had a better option. I have two stainless steel fermenters; the SS Brewtech Chronical and the Brew Bucket but I use the bucket 75% of the time.

I own 2 and only complaint I have is the seal on the lid. It's not very tight and you sometimes don't get the satisfying bubble action in the air lock. But you can fix that with some keg lube or I have seen people slip a half a popsicle stick under the clamp down to give it more torque.

I like these impartial reviews. It's very interesting and useful to hear your experiences. Infections in plastic (or indeed glass) do indeed suck very much. @TheApartmentBrewer
@TheApartmentBrewer 2 жыл бұрын
It has a lot more to do with the porous nature of plastic than whether or not it can be scratched. Sure stainless can be scratched too, but those scratches are easier to clean since its not porous. That's not "hype", its just science. Ferment a brett or a sour beer in a plastic bucket followed by a wheat beer or pilsner, give it a few weeks and see how thorough your cleaning regimen really is.
