I love that your comment is first because kpop nowadays is lot more than just "korean pop music", it entails a lot more than just a type of genre. And speaking a little about Jungkook, he's form the group BTS and this is his first solo album and he decided to do it all in english, so I guess this is a great way to get you re-introduced to kpop. 71 year old BTS Army here. This has nothing to do with Kpop other than JK is S. Korean. He is the main vocalist and youngest member of BTS. All of JK's solo releases including his just released album "Golden" are all in English. There are no S. Korean songwriters, producers, recording studios or MV shooting directors or locations, etc. He is blowing past Kpop and jumping head first into the American pop market. He is using American Grammy Award winning songwriters, producers, recording in the U.S. and filming at mostly U.S. locations such as Universal Studios in Hollywood. This one, however, is an abandoned power plant in Budapest, Hungary. No green screen. There is a photo online if the exterior with that that cool glass room. The director is a very famous Ukrainian director who has directed for Harry Styles and many others. His self professed dream of being a giant pop star is clearly beginning in a big way! BTW, there are now 3 live performances. iHeart Radio, Jimmy Fallon Show, The Today Show, and there is a KILLER Official Choreo Version. Thank you for your reaction! 💜

Jungkook is part of the group BTS, and he officially debuted with his first solo album on the 3rd November. He is a huge artist. Many people misinterpret K-pop like you. But if you're a music lover, an appreciator of good music production and performances that makes you wonder how they can sing live and still go on dancing hard choreography.....and most of all be able to objectively enjoy the artistry of the artists, you'll surely enjoy the music. These artist are a million times more hard working than the western artists I listen to, the sacrifices they make to debut is unimaginable, so even just appreciating that should be enough to give them respect. As a lover of arts, I love that the artists are decked out in amazing costumes and make-up, these are all part of the performances they give. When I first came across K-pop, I fell in love with it because it gave me what I'd missed in Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson's big budget performances. Of course K-pop isn't just Pop, it covers Rock, Indie, R&B, Hip-Hop, etc, etc. Enjoy!!

Him and his group doesn't do lip sync so when he performs live, 100% the mic is on. And 98% of the time, his live vocals are better than the studio versions. You will never be disappointed with JK 😊

BTS have 3 rappers and 4 vocalist and the reason i am a fan because they do have great lyrics when they write thier own music. This was not written by Jungkook because its all English and he is not fluent in English. This is his first solo album. It is really good. He shutdown times Square yesterday and did a free concert and performed a few songs off the album. You should check out the live its even better. Jungkook can sing many genres... he can spit too! The "GOLDEN" magknae (youngest) is an all around artist/entertainer/ vocal genius and a global superstar along with his 6 brothers of Bangtan-BTS. In fact they were NOT born from Kpop- they were rejected, slandered, and ridiculed by the industry as a whole. As many have said, BTS does many genres, so maybe there will be some songs that don’t appeal to you, but you’ll probably dig their more EDM influenced songs, rap tracks, and solo stuff. Definitely check out Ugh and Ddaeng; Daechwita and Haegeum by Agust D (Suga from BTS), and More and Arson by J-Hope. DKDKTV has great explanation videos for the first 3 songs I mentioned that will help breakdown the cultural references, visual symbolism, and language play, so highly recommend to those, too. Helpful even when you have the English CC on. 💜

They actually shot the video on real locations in Budapest, Hungary. Those sets are an abandoned factory, a tunnel on the F1 track and a power plant. Those have been quite popular locations for many movies and tv shows throughout the years.

Before he left the announcement was made that he would be in Times Square 30 min before the start! Looked like the New Years ball drop! And the dancers are all famous Choreographers and dancers. That dancer is Brian Puspos. He is a famous dancer and choreographer, and has choreographed for BTS before this. All of these dancers are are elite choreographers and dancers and it’s amazing he chose them. This label isn’t factory like most. Jung Kook is from BTS. Even though he didn’t write on this album, BTS as a group write and produce on most of their songs. There is a behind the scenes on this since you are interested in video. You like rap? Listen to the rap line from BTS. I suggest Outro Tear at Wembly live. Pick the version where they are dressed in black. Definately use english captions. Lyrics are important to BTS. Jungkook is the Golden maknae of BTS. He's the jack of all trades and can literally turn his hands at anything. He can also a sub rapper for the group. The dancers you see are top of their game and are well known for their dance skills. The attitude and perception you have about k-pop is typical. I had it before BTS and I wasn't a fan of rap until I listened to the rap line. You've been missing out. And BTS & many kpop bands have top notch videos and known for their high production quality. So I recommend Outro Tear, Mic Drop, Black Swan and On Kinetic Manifesto.

9:19 BTS lyricism is what they’re known for… they’ve always led with messages… they even have this huge storyline that goes through music videos, songs, webtoon , mobile games… and they typically aren’t going to talk about mental health, suicide, abuse, domestic violence in Korean culture but BTS does…. Yes most of the music in kpop has meaningless lyrics, but BTS is known for their deep topics, excellent lyricism and artistry. For example, their entire Map of the Soul 7 album was written based on the psychology work of the famous psychiatrist Carl Jung. In that album, each of their 3 rappers made a solo song about different Jungian psychological concepts - Intro: Persona by RM, Interlude:Shadow by Suga, Outro: Ego by J-Hope. Those are pretty deep songs, so the explanation videos by DKDKTV are necessary to watch to understand them better. Ddaeng by the 3 rappers is another song that you need the DKDKTV explanation video for, to understand the lyricism and wordplay. Baepsae by BTS is another that needs the explanation video. These are all hip-hop songs of theirs. Not every single song of theirs is super deep of course, but they focus a lot on lyricism and artistry, which is why they are so respected and standout amongst other kpop groups. Their 3 rappers, especially RM, contribute a lot of the songwriting.

Kpop is Korean pop. They are categorized because they came from that industry. However, they stood out because of their agency gave them artistic freedom to write and produce their own songs. It's not common for any kpop group to write or produce their own songs, their agencies pay for high end producers to do that.

It’s ok to have these opinions going in - I did myself, but more so the industry itself and how in some cases you have adults taking advantage of children to make a quick buck and you just don’t know if who you’re listening to is being treated fairly. BTS as a group and as solo artists are so different to any artist I’ve ever known. They cover so many genres and discuss real world issues through their lyrics. I really do think they’re worth exploring, I don’t really have in interest in exploring further groups - I may do in future, but BTS has ventured so far out of the industry I wouldn’t even consider them K-pop anymore. They’re genuinely kind, humble and lovely young men, I don’t ever regret going down the rabbit hole 😊

BTS breaks that preconception of 'korean songs not having meaning'. Almost all their songs have deep and meaningful lyrics that connects across generations hence they have a huge worldwide fan following called ARMY. Jungkook is one of the 7 members of BTS, the biggest group in the world.

I have discovered BTS last summer of 2022 and coming from being a huge fan of Springsteen and the band LIVE for over 30 and 20 years. And now my days are filled with music of BTS and the members doing their solo stuff. I love it, it makes my day full of dancing and the lyrics are really deep. How is that possible, I have ripped away all my bias and prejudice away. I am Asian too, but it’s not a race thing, it’s how we are blindsided by the media, they decide what we like, there is also a certain amount of xenophobia, you can’t deny that. First off, yes that sleeve is real. You had to be there when he first started getting it and we never saw it clearly cause it was being hidden. So glad he can go sleeveless and show it off now. It all started with getting the fandom name (ARMY) tattooed on his hand, it just kept growing from there, lol. Jungkook is from BTS and they started as a heavily rap and hip hop influenced group. There are 3 members who are rappers, 4 vocalists. The past year or so they've been doing solo work as they're staggering their mandatory enlistment. RM, Suga (AgustD for his solo work) and J-Hope are the rappers. Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook are the vocalists. They've all got solo albums out save for Jin, he had to enlist too quickly to do a whole album so he released the song The Astronaut with Coldplay before he left. If rap is more your wheel house I recommend songs like Ddaeng, UGH!, Tear from the whole rapline or Mic Drop feat Steve Aoki for the full group. For RM I would say check out Wildflower or Do You, for Suga/AgustD Dechwita or Haegum, for J-Hope Arson or Hangsang... They are musical chameleons and cover so many genres in their discography. It's been fun seeing them branch out and express themselves as individuals.

Honestly, I haven’t seen anyone respond negatively to this song/performance, no matter the genres the typically listen to. This is just a total banger any way you look at it. That dude is Brian Puspos, a well known dancer/choreographer from LA. He's Filipino ☺ He had worked with BTS before, as a choreographer, esp in Jimin's song Serendipity. And he had been unofficially part of Jungkook dance crew (since they are mostly freelance dancers and not totally under contract with Hybe)

The background dancers apparently are the who is who of dance and choreography. The location apparently is an abandoned electric plant form the early 1900s in Hungary. Amazing architecture. You mentioned Mongolian throat singing. Right around the time that I was discovering BTS I came across a Mongolian rap duo (IDK their names, sorry) that really struck me, both with their technique (wow, so cool!) and with the lyrics of their song. I was impressed by the majesty of the MV, and their deep pride in their heritage. They obviously took tremendous strength from the connection with their roots. So at the same time, I was discovering BTS, and they had recently performed their song Idol at the 2018 MMA award show. That iconic performance and the MV gave me the exact same feelings as the Mongolian rappers. At the time, Koreans were giving the group hate because they were becoming "too Western", but Western audiences were turning their noses up at them, giving them hate because they were too "foreign"(& lots of kpop prejudice). The song, MV, and MMA performance were the perfect "F You!" to both groups. Essentially saying "We're Korean and proud of it! but we're successful globally, and as ARTISTS we get inspiration from everywhere. We're gonna keep being true to ourselves, regardless of anything anyone else says." Don't miss that 2018 MMA BTS performance, and if you'd like some cultural background explanation, ByStorm channel did a great combo explanation of the Idol MV and the award show performance aspects (it's the longer video, but worth watching). Anyway, the music is different, but the feelings expressed are the same, and touch a universal chord within us all.

you're not wrong about the Kpop stereotype. But this is BTS/JungKook, and they play outside of the kpop realm. I too was like you. I assumed it was all poppy girly music. Or hard hitting noise music. however, bts hit different. since you seem to have a similar taste in music as me, i would recommend to start with the BTS rapline as well as their solo work as it's more mature sounding before you get into their earlier group songs. You'd be surprised that they have a strong following from people that are into heavy/hardcore metal. The majority of the songs from BTS and their members have meaningful lyrics. Of course there will be some songs here and there that are more about the vibe/hype then the lyrics, but the majority of their songs have meaning behind it. Add showmanship and passion on top of that, and you get masterpieces.

BTS lyric's make sense they tell a story usually something to do with their lives at a given point in time or a social/political comment or about mental health. Yes they have a few fun lift up our spirits type of songs but most of what the write is real life to them. They are a group of 7 song writer, 7 composers 7 producers 3 Rappers from the South Korean underground Hip Hop scene and 4 Vocalists. They all play at least one musical instrument and they can all dance. They are the only Group in the top 10 artists of the world the other 9 are all solo artists. They have well over 800 awards, including over 28 Guiness world Records numberous Rolling Stone's Records, 5 grammy nominations now 9 Billboard number 1's all debuting at number 1. oh yes and 12 Billboard Awards. They sell out the biggest stadiums on the planet usually in under an hour of the tickets going on sale. They all are 7 solo artists that form The Super Group.

Kpop is not a genre because it includes all kinds of music. Two BTS rappers were underground rappers before they became BTS. BTS have 3 rappers, and they also released mixtapes and solo albums, which are rap. If you want to be surprised about set design, check out Fake Love mv. Nothing is cgi in that mv.

This retro funk song is not KPop though, apart from the fact that Jungkook is Korean. Budget is big because Jungkook is not your run off the mill Korean artist. He is the main vocalist, lead dancer and youngest member of the supergroup, BTS. You should watch Seven after this .. Seven broke record by being the fastest song in the world to hit 1b (yes, 1billion) streams in the shortest time, beating Miley Cyrus who held that record before. Seven is already platinum in the US. Jungkook was the first Korean to be asked to perform at the FIFA World Cup (Qatar). He just did a surprise mini concert in Times Square NYC 2 days ago and the only second artist, after Post Malone, to have done it on the TSX stage,

The only K-pop thing about this is Jungkook. This song and JK’s whole album is in English. The writers and producers are at least Grammy nominated if not winners. Jon Bellion, Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes all have writing credits on his album “Golden”. He has Jack Harlow, Latto, DJ Snake and Major Lazer as features. What you said earlier about K-pop sort of still applies to some extent. But JK and BTS (boy group he’s part of) are beyond that. Fun fact: JK once stated he’d like to bulk up like Jong Kook but leaner. He’s definitely achieved that now.

The video was shot in Budapest, Hungary (where I'm from) in 2 days in an abandoned power station. The power station's architecture is amazing! The actual venue probably didn't cost much (comparatively), this is why a lot of movies and videos are shot in Hungary. The dancer you mentioned is Brian Puspos. He did the choreography for Jimin's Serendipity. He said he always loved the song. He created the dance and to his surprise, it was for Serendipity. Jimin was always a fan of his work and they follow each other on social media. Now that all of BTS have released solo albums they all have a different sound. When they get back together they are going to have so more to offer Army, that we are not going to survive!
