It's not clear to me why you have omitted the square root in the second case..in that case the eigen vectors will be different

+Philippe Miron I think the mass cancels out. This is actually a big deal, that the motion of a pendulum doesn't depend on mass. It's just as big of a deal as the fact that gravitational acceleration doesn't depend on mass.

+Dr. Underwood's Physics KZbin Page That's what I first thought. Though at one point, you have mL\ddot(\theta) = -Lgsin(\theta) and there's a missing m on the right hand side. But after this line it is removed from both sides so the following equations are right.

+Philippe Miron Ah, yes, there is indeed a typo in that intermediate step where I dropped the "m"!
