My mothers family has the colorblind genes so the way my mother explained it was: Only a woman in the family can give it to a child (i think it has something to do with the second X) but, most of the time, only man will be influenced because woman has a second "shield" (the two Xs) but men only have one. Honestly it's a miracle my brother isn't colorblind. I always fawned it to be ironic that men can get colorblind but its the mother that has the genes.
