Ray, I had the same experience with the child safety lock. I had never had a car with that feature but when I was going nuts thinking I would have to tear the panel off, my nephew (known for mischief) said "What about the kid lock?". Voila, it was fixed. Real wakeup call for an older adult driver. 🥴 Addendum: The mischievous nephew was the one who set the lock. 😡

My adult daughter couldn't open the rear door from the inside one Christmas Eve, 2005 Yukon. Early Christmas morning I investigated, took off the door panel, then noticed what looked like a diagram of a spaceman. Turns out that it was a child safety lock icon, had no idea vehicles had such lock.

All of the fancy oil filter wrenches in your collection and you go for old reliable, that is my favorite tool as well. And the owner of the Mustang is saying “Yes it still spins the tires” I wait to see if people who service my 2013 VW bug with a 2.0 T. 200 horse engine spin the tires by mistake thinking it is just a wimpy vw. My wife unit used to spin the tires every morning when she left the house when she was working from the office. And she wants an old mustang for me to modify. I’m still having to much fun with her bug!

I ordered a stahlbus drain valve for my truck, and it was delayed in shipping. Of course it arrived an hour after i did an oil change. You mentioned not following diagnostics procedures. I caught a video yesterday. A guy had a customer's car, they'd been for an oil change elsewhere and ended up with crank non start. A quick check of the fuses, the oil change shop had pulled the fuse of the fuel injection and left it lying in the fuse box. Now that's sly.

I’ve heard the oil on the finger thing and the reasoning behind it is that any microscopic particles suspended in the oil will latch on the the groove in your fingerprint and cause it to go sideways as opposed to clean oil that has no suspended particles will flow straight down. I don’t follow this method for determining the life of my oil I actually try and change it early, but there’s the reasoning behind it and do with it as you wish!!

Yup, 8,000 miles is a bit long for an oil change. I change the oil in my 5.6 Nissan V8 within 5,000 miles (8,000 km, I live in Canada). Cheap protection from sludge build up that can cause costly repairs. My wife just bought a Mazda CX 30 with a 2.5 L 4. The manufacturer recommends 16,000 km oil changes. When we picked the car up and I told the dealership that I would be bringing it in every 8,000 km for service, they said "Yes, we recommend that for all of our customers. We want to sell people new cars, but not enough to have them wreck their engines in 5 years."

I couldn’t see enough of it to be 100% sure, but it looks like the “Idler arm”. That looks original and the boot is likely torn. Odd that it didn’t get replaced when the rest of the steering gear was replaced. They aren’t expensive or difficult to replace, just 2 bolts to the frame and one ball joint nut that attaches to the drag link. Weird.

Ok the oil finger thing, Well it depends on who said it and how serious that persons is. Unlike the poor kid looking for the leak with a spray bottle on a tire that wasn't on the rim, he sprayed it turned it sprayed it, he had already went around it 2 times looking for the leak with a soapy bubble spray. Now someone in the shop played a crud joke on this poor kid because bless his heart he was serious about trying to find it. But without any air pressure he was doomed to fail unless he found a nail or something.

Had a similar thing happen to me, had my daughter and grandson out in the car one day to do their shopping, next day come out to my car Land rover Discovery 2 TD5, the car would not open with the key fob, totally dead battery. Charge battery car starts no problem, took it to a motor factory to buy a new battery, battery is drop tested all OK according to the test, left it another day, same thing again, wouldn't open, recharge the battery, back to the motor factor, another drop test battery all good, possibly was a short somewhere. Decided to go and get the car checked out at an auto electricians, had to reverse car back slightly to get out of forecourt, I turned around to check out of thenback before reversing and it was then I noticed the blooming interior light in the middle of the car was on, grandson had been messing and put it on. Switched it off battery was good for a few more years after that lol
