Something I'd like to note is that Lin-Manuel Miranda himself confirmed on genius for Non-Stop: "in Helpless, Alexander swore to Eliza that she would never feel helpless, and yet here we are. We're not even in Act II, yet."

@@flowersgrewbackasthorns As far as I'm aware, there isn't a Genius video that goes over the writing for Non-Stop, but the Genius site DOES have verification and annotations on its lyrics for Hamilton by LMM. I more or less copied and pasted what he wrote in an annotation for Non-Stop in Eliza's "Helpless...", which is the only thing he annotated in that song in particular.

here it is one of my top three songs from the musical. was reaally excited for this one. the "i have so much work to do" from Lauren's interlude is so important here. he just lost a dear friend so now he's working harder than ever to both lose himself in his work, but also because he knows he could also die any time and he has to leave a legacy. the end of this song is my favorite because you get all these awesome motifs coming back together as everyone just screams at hamilton to take a break, but of course knowing hamilton he would never stop. but like also this song is just FULL of different melodies, even aside from all the repeated motifs. there's So much that happens in this song its incredible also SZIN ONCE AGAIN with the awesome visuals. just fantastic. and the way they show the tension between burr and hamilton is so good!! i love it and the use of lighting with the door scene!! i could yell abt their animatics for hours omg the most interesting thing to me about burr and hamilton is that they're both orphans. they both lost everything, but they learned completely different things from it. burr learned that he has to always play it safe because he's scared of losing anything else, and hamilton learned to always go for it because he has nothing left to lose.

This is my favorite song from a pure music perspective! I said before that if you liked Right-Hand-Man feeling like a culmination just you wait until Non-Stop so I just want to appreciate the amount of pure awesome connectiveness and motifs and things 0:42 The bass-line here is the same outline as Aaron Burr Sir and Wait For It. 1:03, 1:14 This line describing Hamilton "write like you're running out of time" has a strange relationship to Eliza's line "that would be enough". These two motifs are put in counterpoint against each other in the last glorious minute of this song along with like 7 other motifs, but I hadn't realized this relationship until I had re-listened several times. The 3 notes on "be enough" and "running out" are exactly the same, 5-3-3. And on some versions there can be more overlap, with 2-1-5-3-3 for "that would be enough" and "like you're running out". But that variation on "write like you're running out of time" only comes at the last song I think, so maybe I should wait and save the rest of my thoughts for then. 1:48, 2:50, 5:46 His face I love his face! 2:02 These two characters are a reference to one of Szin's other video series called Hybrid Heroes, I love that one too but have no idea if other people would be interested idk also it's not finished yet and kinda starts out slow 2:27 Here it sounds kinda like Aaron Burr Sir, again but with a different accompaniment, I love how this style can make the dialog feel so natural as part of the music. 3:08 Hamilton's lines "what are you waiting for" and "what do you stall for" are both references to previous things. Hamilton sang "what are you waiting for" at the end of Story of Tonight Reprise, just before Wait For It. And "what do you stall for" is a reference to "what do you stall for" in Aaron Burr Sir just before My Shot, bringing along "if you stand for nothing Burr, what'll you fall for". 3:21 This box in the animatic on the line "we fought and we killed" is the same box Burr put away his gun in back in Dear Theodosia. I love how the animatic doesn't show the gun, but it shows the box it was locked in previously to show that it was in the past but it was still there. 3:32 And of course Burr's response comes with a reference to "Wait for it". 3:49, 4:01 This instrumental pattern has followed Angelica through the Schuyler Sisters, Satisfied, and Non-Stop so far. 4:06 The way they sing their names to each other! Angelica sings "My Alexander" the same way she sang "but Alexander" in Satisfied with "I'll never for get the first time I saw your face", but also similar to the way Washington sang "Alexander" at the end of Guns and Ships. And the way Hamilton sings "Angelica" the same way she sang her name in the Schuyler Sisters. 4:12 Eliza's "Look at where you are, look at where you started" etc. from That Would Be Enough. Except this time it's faster-paced and instead of stating "that would be enough" at the end she's asking him "would that be enough?". Eliza is the person Hamilton needed to balance his mentality, even if he didn't deserve her she was exactly who he needed to listen to 4:33 The piano accompaniment in this section is the same melody as "Alexander Hamilton", but faster-paced, higher, and a bit more frantic-sounding to my ear with that delay effect 5:24 The accompaniment here has the same pattern of "bah-da" stepping up as the "I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory" section of My Shot, the "I cannot be everywhere at once" section of Right Hand Man, and most of History Has Its Eyes On You. I've commented before that it's sometimes used for moments of introspection and considering the challenges of stepping up to face their situation, and how as the "bah-da" steps up with the notes in the music, and Washington and Hamilton step up to fulfill their roles in history. Here that is completed with Washington stepping up to be president and Hamilton stepping up to be Treasury Secretary. 5:25 Washington's line "They are asking me to lead" has the same melody as "I was younger than you are now" and "Let me tell you what I wish I'd known" from History Has Its Eyes On You, and brings with it the same emotions from that song about taking on the responsibilities of leadership. 5:53 Okay here's where the motifs really start to get going. First Hamilton turns the motif "look around" back on Eliza, then she sings "helpless" but the emotional context has changed to be more frustrated in her love, then he sings's Washingtons "they are asking me to lead" and then Eliza starts "look around" but switches it up into "that would be enough" changed into "isn't this enough", Angelica comes in with "never be satisfied", and then it gets kicked up even more into high gear when Washington comes in with "history has it's eyes on you", the bass-line based on the outline of Aaron Burr Sir is underneath it all as Burr gets back on "write like you're running out of time". All of these motifs are weaved in together in the same space and it's awesome! And then when "not throwing away my shot" is added in along with the chorus singing "just you wait" and "Alexander Hamilton", that's references to at least 11 different motifs from 8 different songs (other than this one) just in this last section. 6:54 Counting the whole song, the motif references touch the majority of the other songs so far, at least 14 of them I can find some association with (1 2 3 5 8 10 11 12 13 14 15 17 18 19). This is an awesome culmination of act 1 and I love it!

In the official disney+ version, Alex points to the roof at the exact moment as his shadow does in the animatic. Its perfect and fitting and really points to this moment as being the turning point for his character. The turning point that sends him to the ending he got. Nonstop is definitely one of the absolute best songs of the musical. The final song is my actual favorite, the Nonstop is my favorite of act one and I think maybe second favorite of the musical.

How talkative is Hamilton IRL? Historians debate his last words because he wouldn't stop talking after he was shot. During the war, when Congress said "Go fight the British" Hamilton "shot back" with a 65-page response. During that murder trial, Hamilton talked for hours, until dusk. You saw he talked 6-hours straight at the Constitutional Convention... How much of a real life Slytherin is Burr? To save the murder trial Hamilton nearly ruined by talking the jury to death, Burr held a candlestick up to a shady witness and proclaimed him to be the real murderer. At their next case together, Burr gave such a thorough opening statement that Hamilton had nothing new to say for the closing remarks and stayed silent. Many contemporaries said Burr was a better lawyer than Hamilton, "having an even temperament and the impartiality of an angel, but the resolve of a devil". Burr resigned from the Army before things became too desperate, but Washington still counted on him for Intel missions. After the war, when Hamilton established the Bank of New York, Burr asked his friend to help him expedite an "NYC civics improvement project". Hamilton happily complied and put his full political weight on it. At the absolute last minute, Burr switched the paperwork from a harmless civics project to a bank, and got it approved, making him a direct competitor to Hamilton. LOL, THEN he switched to Dem-Rep and ran against Hamilton's father-in-law. Oh, then after he said his goodbyes to Hamilton, he allegedly tried to start his own Spain-backed colony. Historians still say allegedly because Thomas Jefferson could never find any ACTUAL evidence that he was committing treason, even after FOUR treason trials. And, lastly, Burr couldn't be bothered to stay in America for a fifth trial, so he seduced a wealthy matron, married her, and absconded with her money to Europe to be rid of his haters. Jeez, you kill one founding father and everyone treats you like you're "dangerous and amoral".
