I was present to someone I am deeply in love with and cried when I tried to let go. I found saying yes to be helpful in releasing body tension but letting go of my lover will take more work. Very interesting meditation. Thank you.

What a blessing of presence. I love the essence of surrender. Once I experienced not as a desperation but rather freedom from all of me that had brought me to my knees..again..and again. What bliss to know I was not my false conditioned identification. Thank you

Hi Cecelia. Yes, it is all about surrender. In Ramana Maharshi's "Talks", a record of what he said every day which was recorded in English and then checked every night by him, there is this on "surrender": She knows what is best and when and how to do it. Leave everything entirely to Her. Hers is the burden: you have no longer any cares. All your cares are Hers. Such is surrender. Ramana did it with "He", but i gender-modified it to match my experience. It is powerful to use it during the day whenever you find yourself trying to "do" something but "failing". stillness

@@GaryWeber how beautiful. I quoted you from your book Evolving Beyond Thought, ( excuse me if i paraphrase it now) 'When I surrendered, I found I was fully held and all my needs met'. That resonated with me as I found when i fully surrendered, I had no more wants or needs. How could I want for anything other than what was? I laughed remembering how all my life I had tried to dictate what I needed. How grateful I am that I didn't get most of those needs and the ones I got, were my most skillful teachers in that they brought me the most suffering and from that, my illusions were dispelled. I am enjoying continuing with the book and look forward to your othet offerings.

Hi Amir Giles. Great that you found it useful. It is often useful to go back over a practice that has proven useful, again, and again, as one discovers something different each time as it works its way deeper. i have chanted the famous "Nirvana Shatakam", one of the major teachings in nonduality, which is on my soundcloud channel and in my first book, Happiness Beyond Thought, literally thousands of times and each time, some new deepening occurs. Hi beachandbluesky1. The biggest proponent of the "I Am" approach was Nisargadatta, a 20th century nondual master. His "I Am That" is a popular and powerful nondual book. Focusing on "I Am" can displace other concepts and one may abide in that. However, i did not find it useful. Ramana's self-inquiry process directly deconstructs the "I", which IME is a deeper, clearer place. Nis's later teachings are confused on the difference and show there is still an "I" remaining, IMHO.

Hi Gary,There was a clear seeing behind the veil about 6 months ago, that lasted about 24 hours. Could see how indescribably blissful it was to be utterly free of the sense of doer-ship. Realized that I had thought all along that I was a 'spiritual seeker', but that was only an appearance. The grace had been coming all along from the Oneness to provide the interest and drive. Could clearly see there never was a duality. Only the appearance of such. Since then, trying to figure out how to stabilize. There have been intermittent periods since where doer-ship again falls away. It feels like ' this is it', it's finished, but then after a few hours, the false sense of doer-ship returns. Doing about 3 hours of practices, plus inquiry throughout the day, but it feels pretty joyous and effortless. I noticed you said that surrender is a tactile process, so have been focusing in particular on this. A couple weeks ago, another sincere seeker said to me that the diaphragm is the last place the body holds onto old traumas, and also is the muscle of surrender, and I should focus on addressing this tension. Noticed in the last year that the diaphragm is in fact the only place in my body that I notice any tension whatsoever. On my own, I had started to suspect there was a relationship between the diaphragm and the ego. Do you have any thoughts about this ( diaphragm + ego) relationship? In the meantime doing some pranayama work on this and noticing improvement regarding tension - and consciously letting it go. Otherwise life has never been better!Many thanks,Chris
@GaryWeber
@GaryWeber 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris. On the "diaphragm + ego" relationship the Oneness has led you to the answer, i.e. "doing some pranayama work...noticing improvement regarding tension and consciously letting it go". The importance of pranayama is captured in the Zen classic teaching of "breath sweeps mind". It is all through "Happiness Beyond Thought" (HBT) and in Ramana's teaching discussed in the blogpost "The Essence of Awakening" @ happinessbeyondthought.blogspot.com/2018/09/the-essence-of-awakening.html with six verses specifically on pranayama including the classic "Control the breath and you control the mind, like throwing a net over a wild parrot". There are many different pranayamas as shown in HBT. IME, a particularly powerful one is alternate nostril breathing. If you "Google it", you'll see many videos demonstrating it. If you find the mind wandering and "doership returning", just do some alternate nostril breathing. Trust this is useful. stillness gary

Gary Weber Thanks Gary! I’ve been doing quite a bit of daily pranayama for about 18 months, including alternate nostril breathing. I’ll look at these and hopefully can resolve this on my own. If not, I think I can probably find someone in my city that can give me specific guidance.

Hi Terry Lightfoot. That is the famous "peace chant", called "Om Purnam". The chant goes: Om purnamadah Purnamidam Purnat purnamudachyate Purnasya purnamadaya Purnamevavashishyate. Translation is: Om That is the whole. This is the whole. From wholeness emerges wholeness. Wholeness coming from wholeness, wholeness still remains. Hi Rob. Yes, have lost the ability to see comments on blog w/the new "Dynamic" format. "Google Blogger" boards' Obi Wans suggest a temporary, probable, workaround which requires me to rewrite some limits in the HTML. i'm waiting for Google, which knows about the problem, to fix it. Best w/the iOS7 if that's the problem. Sometimes youTube gets "quirky", and then it's OK. Tks for the feedback. stillness.

You can bring a troublesome thought to consciousness and ask " is it true?" " Can I absolutely know that it is true?" And then " how do I feel when I have this thought?" These questions come from Byron Katie's the work. Then get in touch with the feeling in the body and use the techniques in this video. This is a really powerful sequence.
@GaryWeber

Hi truthadept. IME, past lives, astral bodies, life after death, etc. are not useful in awakening; they are a great distraction. my sense is that what is left of "me' will just dissolve back into Universal Consciousness like a wave into the ocean to form other waves later, or not. Yes, IME, there is definitely consciousness independent of the body. The important "I am not this body" practices lead to a clear recognition of this. See blogpost "Working w/ 'I am not this body'". URL in "About".

Hi Gary,I've been doing this kind of meditation for a while but didn't know it was "letting go" or acceptance. I screen all of my body and release if there's any conflict etc. I wonder if merely releasing muscles and tensions can be counted as letting go and does it work for awakening? I mean should "attachtments" come to the consciousness and I must be aware of them or just releasing muscles without this part works as well? Thanks

@@GaryWeber Hi Gary. i'm not new to this, we even skyped twice. These days a massive "wave" of suffering is passing. It's all about this enormously deep fear that seems to connect to everything else. The fear itself is quite abstract, but it connects to more concrete thoughts that can be phrased (e.g. "i'm a bad student"), and inquired with Byron Katie's technique. i usually don't ask Byron Katie's questions (only do it when i'm super-confused), just being with the phrase automatically feels useful, as in, i can usually feel it's not true. But the deep fear somehow remains. So i also try to feel into the abstract fear itself. It seems something is "moving" towards a "lightness", although slowly... There's a lot of tension in the body, in fact, this was always the case for me. "Yes, yes, ..." helps (a little bit).
