@@HannaHsOverInvested I'm not sure where that particular bit comes from, but there are some digital comics that have been released for several characters (including some that weren't in any of the shorts, such as Torbjorn (father of Brigitte, the woman talking with Reinhardt in the Honor and Glory short). That gives you a bit more lore around the characters and world. There's also a few even shorter cut scenes that they created for the release of some of the characters that were added after the game's release (Ana, Echo, Brigitte, and Sigma are some) that give a very brief background of that specific character. Not sure if those are worth doing a reaction to, but they're also pretty neat. :D

I gobbled up every piece of OW-lore we got pretty much since the reveal-trailer, which is why i'm 99,99999% sure that this whole "A crusaders armor is his tomb"-stuff is NOT from Overwatch. It IS a tradition of Warhammer 40k's Dreadnoughts, though. The reason why they left him there is probably rather simple - the town of Eichenwalde was abandoned during the Omnic Crisis and in a massive, world-spanning war like that, some things not every body is retrieved. Hell, Overwatch forgot they had people still in the Antarctica and they were still alive (well ... one of them, anyways).

@@shadowcat1606 You are partly correct Eichenwalde was abandoned the reason his corpse is left there because that is Baldrich von Adler's his ancestral home is that castle confirmed by Blizz Devs at Blizz con that is the reason his body was left because he was home and where the general belonged on his family throne no better place to be laid to rest... That being said the premise of Eichenwalde is one team is trying to breach the castle to recover Baldrich's remains the other is trying to prevent it from being removed. Also if you look at their outfits closely they are pretty much sealed in there air tight 4:55 is a good example to see they have the armor and a rubberized suit underneath most likely to keep them cool and to seal them in as well as protect them from the jet engine in the back ect. So the smell would actually be sealed in that suit the only part to rot maybe the helmet but we don't know if that has a airlock mechanism sealing that on and locking it in place so for all we know Baldrich could be 100% preserved in his suit.

Yeahhhh there’s a quote about them; “ a crusader’s armor is his tomb”. They left him there, and yes it’d probably smell the first few weeks. Also the suit of armor is more of a mech or a “robot suit” (hence the disproportions) so yeah the blue fluids are the liquids that run through the suit, either as fuel source for all those jet boosts and or maybe to keep the suit cool. As for the ‘Reunion’, yeah nothing much you missed the first time round other than the monkey reference. Basically the cinematic shorts are just short stories for the characters and that they may or may not flesh out some lore and not all of them are linked. Your “Avengers” moment would be the “Zero Hour” cinematic short, and you get to see who responds to Winston’s msg. Gosh excitinggg 😬😱🤐

Side note, In the game a lot of players that played Reinhardt would go off trying to kill enemies like Rein did at the start of the video. After this came out a lot of people started playing him as a protector of the team like he should be. And when Broderick told him to "Be their shield" that is one of his ingame quotes when he raises his shield.

Reunion Backstory: Mcree and Ashe used to be in the same group, but then Mcree joined overwatch. He got assigned to protect a scientist, he failed but echo was that doctor's final creation. Mcree then figured out that echo was in storage. So he found out a way to get echo back without breaking any laws himself. He tipped Ashe about the train, and then stole echo off them.

Really, you can watch the shorts in any order, as long as you start with Recall & Are You With Us, and end with Zero Hour. Hope that helps (even though you're already through most of them, lol).

@@HannaHsOverInvested And don't worry in general about following the lore. Simple, but sad fact is that so far, Blizzard has done an incredibly bad job of telling a coherent story for this game. So far, it's been mostly world-building, characterizations and window-dressing. They don't even have their timeline straight for this plot/universe and so far, what little we do have in terms of timeline, is mainly thanks to the work of fans trying to figure it out.

How long after the Imnic Crisis started was Overwatch founded? How long has Winston been a part of it? When did Tracer join? How much time has passed since OW got shut down? Things like that we don't really know anything about. And it doesn't exactly help that Blizzard tends to confuse the community even more with, for example. group pictures of OW that make no sense.

If I recall, there is an interview with the development team where the "blue blood" was brought up. Initially it was supposed to be his blood, but they decided against it because it would have been a bit too gruesome. The game and the marketing doesn't really have any gore, the use of blood is very very limited. Edit: By his blood, I of course meant it was supposed to be red in color. I am pretty sure that the liquid was just from the suit. Reinhardt had his eye slashed and it immediately cauterized, no blood there either.

Reunion was basically the announcement for the new hero Ashe. And Echo, but people weren’t sure about that yet, because at the BlizzCon when they first showed this cinematic they only announced Ashe and left Echo just as part of the cinematic. Ashe and McCree were dating, McCree was part of the Blackwatch which is to put it very simple the ‘bad’ part of Overwatch but it’s more complicated than that

His blood isnt blue, and his hand to head ratio isn't off, this is because he's inside of this massive suit. The liquid was probably oil or something like that. They perhaps bigger than the average guy, because they are buff dudes, but they are inside of a suit which is bigger than them. So if you imagine, their hands don't fit necessarily into it like a glove, but the suit translates what his hands are doing into the suits movements. And yes, they left his body there all this time, its like 25-30 or more years later.

In the Cinematic for Honor and Glory ,it features Reinhardt and his Origins from a Part of the German Military to fight the omnics called the Crusaders. Who take a lifelong oath to defend the People and to do so until death. They take it very seriously so much so that in the code it says that a Crusaders Armor will be left where they have fallen and it shall then be a a memorial to their lives and deaths and shall be their Tomb. So yes By German Law His friends/mentor/father figure body is still their in that armor ,left Where he Died.

Fun facts: - The girl with Reinhardt is Brigitte, Torbjorn's eldest daughter (he's the short engineer with the big beard) and Reinhardt's goddaughter and "squire". Following Reinhardt's decision to rejoin Overwatch, Brigitte decided to join him on the field. - The omnics that overwhelmed the Crusaders are OR-14s, the predecessors to the hero Orisa. - Jesse McCree was directly named after a Blizzard employee. But after his...scandals were exposed, the Overwatch team decided to give the character another name: Cole Cassidy. "McCree" is now treated as an alias that he used. - B.O.B. was technically Ashe's family butler, but he also acts as her bodyguard (and joins via her Ultimate). - The omnic that McCree/Cassidy rescued is Echo, who was built by a scientist that he protected back in the Overwatch days. She's called "Echo" because she can replicate others' skills.

unlike the WoW cinematics, overwatch cinematics are basically introductions to every character in game so don’t be too worried about feeling that watching one should be helping you to understand the next. as far as these videos go, there is no noticeable overarching theme/story, save for winston’s message that he sent to all overwatch agents which is apparent in the honor and reunion cinematics. other than that, all of them are separate stories revolving around the protagonists in these shorts.

Honour & Glory always makes me cry lol. The blood is blue because Epic Games wants to keep OW ratings within the T rating on ESRB, so the blood is made blue instead of red. In China you cannot show blood in the videos or they will not be allowed, that is why they tried to make the liquid look like coolant or something like that but it was actually blood. Notice that the Eye wound was just a red streak with no flowing blood, prime example right there. For all of these trailers, think of them all as happening at the same moment in time, just a day or so after Winston sent the recall message. They are all leading up to ......... something at the end.

Neat details I noticed about about the robot guy with the sniper rifle: one eye is larger for the scope, he has an adjustable resting pad on his elbows for laying prone in a sniping position, and the hood to break up the shape of his head (a common sniper practice). The attention to detail is incredible.

1:22 It's not Blizzard until someone's shoulder pads reach higher than their head. 4:53 Blizzard really did not want to put blood or gore of any kind in this game or its promotional material, so they made the stupid decision to put blue liquid there that was basically "coolant or whatever," even if blood would have made so much more sense and sold it better. You confusion makes this especially clear. 9:50 Just going by the cinematic trailers, you would not have seen either of these characters. McCree had been in the game for a while when it came out, but this trailer was very close to when Ashe was added to the game. There might have been comics or the more flat-looking videos, but they probably wouldn't end up in the compilation you're watching.

Some more added context from an avid Overwatch player: For the “Honor and Glory” short, this takes place on Eichenwalde, a German city that got ravaged by the Omnic War and yet another playable Overwatch map. Reinhardt was a Crusader, a subset of the German military specialized in things like shield protection and other things seen in the short. The man Reinhardt was talking to was Balderich von Adler, his commander and a prominent Crusader leader. You could still see him sitting on that chair at the end of the map too. The woman he was talking to was Brigitte Lindholm (she’s Swedish), currently another playable Overwatch character and Reinhardt’s squire/protégé. Someone else already explained the context behind the “Reunion” short in the comments, so yeah. However, this takes place on Route 66 in Santa Fe, yet another playable Overwatch map and the headquarters of Deadlock operations. The robotic girl McCree activates is named Echo, and she was the last character added to the game. This was just a teaser for her eventual release as well as Ashe’s.

You have missed nothing. (One sure someone has told this already but this point but) These trailers were made to introduce characters or give some context to existing characters. For example the game had been out for a good while at this point, and if you ONLY played the game and didn’t like look up information online and read bios and junk on their websites to get all the lore and all you’d know about mcree is that he’s a cowboy dude. So then we get this trailer and find out he used to be a gang and he had a thing with this girl and stuff. It also gave context to that areas, because in the game almost all the areas in these trailers are maps in the game. So like with this trailer the average person would have learned “oh THATS why there’s a train crashed on this map”. Again they also introduced new or future characters. I had No idea who Ashe (white haired woman) or the robot woman were when this trailer came out, but I knew that Ashe (and was really hoping she would) was gonna be a new character, and I also assumed the robot woman would be a new character at some point in the future as well (which she is). So these cinematics are really just a fun and pretty way to show of characters and map, and have SOME kind of loose story along with them

I was also confused about the "blue" blood. I think Blizzard opted to hint at Balderich's bleeding as "blue oil" from the suit and panning just enough away from the beer for it to possibly be "soda" foam in order to keep the rating for these cinematics down and accessible to all ages. But that's just a theory from me, I can't say for certain.

I know this is 2 months late but if nobody has explained how "the world got to be this way", basically humans created something called Omnics which were basically meant to be robots that did work for them. But the Omnics became self-aware and began fighting against the people that made them/forced them to work and took over a lot of factories that made Omnics to begin with, creating an army and starting a war.

Warframe takes place in a fairly dystopian future in our solar system, where a small number of armoured super soldiers (warframes) fights to protect the weak.

They say that gaming is not an Art form, but from the first time I built my first computer. To get away from the difficulties of my circumstances, I've never found that to be true. I used to read books and loved ever turn of the page, but in those stories I was just along for the ride. But in video games especially in story mode, I don't play for competition, living is competition enough. Fighting through each day with demons in your head, while the world is shitty to each other. Greed and selfishness, making lives and life more difficult than it needs to be. Video games I could be anything I wanted to be, go off the beaten path especially in huge open worlds. Whilst there is a main story, there are always plenty of side quests to get lost in. There is so much story and emotion, interactive ways to tell stories that might one day allow humans to be better.

Each of the trailers is intended to introduce you to the lore/background of each character. The game itself is a player vs player (team on team) battle and each one has different and unique abilities. Basically there was a war against AI and with the help of overwatch they quelled the war and began to work on peace. There are also a lot of people who took advantage of the war for profit and villainy. Now in the wake of the war and the troublesome peace the need for Overwatch returns.

The hands are bigger because that is the power armor, not his skeletal size. True they would be speaking German, but most people hate reading subtitles and watching the scene. Takes practice to read fast, I grew up watching subtitled TV shows and movies since I was little, so I got no issue (dubbed versions are horrid and insulting to foreign filmmakers)...There is a thing called honor and duty, one life may mean a lot but not when it is compared to the lives of a country and the world. Rheinhardt learns this with the death of his friend and mentor, personal glory means shat, when it jeopardizes the mission to save lives. Where is he going to run to when surrounded by Omnics???? REUNION is the first video that bridges into Overwatch 2 with the intro of a new OW character who is an old acquaintance of McCree, Eko. Ash is an old flame of McCree during his younger days.

love the reactions, you're doing good. You don't have to watch these in any order. Each character is introduced in their own cinematic. The German guy Reinhardt when out of his suit you'll notice his hands are normal sized because those are power suits with mechanical arms hence the blue liquid when he was sped on the side by the ploughman. They use those rocket hammers and he is supposed to be the shield for his team. It is believed that where they die their suit becomes their coffin ... he is still there to this day you can find him. Most of these introduction cinematics don't relate to each other except when Winston the ape/scientist appears.

what i really don't like about dubbing media, especially like this, is that all the dialects disappear. In german, widomaker has her french accent, but Tracer has no british accents, because there is no british accent in german language... and some dead jokes doesn't work

As the cinematics progress, most were released well after the game, so the developers are assuming you have some in-game knowledge of the characters. In Reunion, it was the opportunity to introduce Ashe, Bob and ECHO.

The reason you are so confused about what is happening and confused about the characters is that you need to watch the origin stories of the characters. The videos you are watching are pretty out of order aswell.

Nah, his blood isn't blue, it's the fluid from the suit. Basically to make sure the cinematic can be shown everywhere, they replaced him "bleeding" with the suit's fluids in the visual representation. So that it isn't actually showing "blood and gore" which might make some censors upset. He's clearly hurt, as evidenced by his grunts of pain, and clutching at his side, so you can infer that the attack also pierced his body, and that it's mortal. They're just not showing you blood and guts. Same reason why, in Dragons, the only person actually hit with an arrow, was the robot. All the humans were disabled in ways that were clearly non-lethal or bloody.

Since there aren't too many games with marketing campaigns similar to Overwatch, I feel like after you're done with them you might be able to enjoy Team Fortress 2 "meet the" trailers (Meet the medic would be a great start, though I know you're not taking recommendation for games right now :D). TF2 is basically Overwatch's primogenitor, and just like the OW, it doesn't have much in-game plot to speak of. These videos are A LOT more whacky and "comedic" in tone as opposed to more complex and heartwarming stuff in the Overwatch trailers.

blizzard made the blood blue instead of red so they can still publish these vids for kids, straight up the first transformers had the bots either not bleed at all or bleed "oil" for similar reasons. although by the third some decepticons were just bleeding red goo from their mouths like someone knocked thee teeth in for some reason. super strange

@@HannaHsOverInvested I know the feeling, but I am hoping that they put out more either about more of the characters or their background story. Or just about the lore in general. I am an avid gamer and been playing Blizzard games since like before 2000 but I have never played Overwatch. Just not a fan of online PvP.
