Four dams are being restored after catastrophic failures led to four man-made lakes disappearing in May 2020. The dam failures took away Sandford Lake, Wixom Lake, Secord Lake and Smallwood Lake.

Great... But they cant fix the water in Flint

In Flint, local officials are the problem now- they have incentive to prolong the crisis for political and economic gain but also have not shown much in the way of general managerial competence. I don’t know if corruption or incompetence is preventing Flint water from being fixed, but it is no longer coming from the state or federal levels. As evidence, look at Benton Harbor. They had a similar issue as flint and with strong local support and competent leadership, the replacement project is now complete in under the initial timeline and under the initial budget.

The water in Flint is being fixed. It took a Dem in office to make that happen.

Do the dams serve a purpose other than lakes? If they aren't producing hydro power, river restoration is the best option. Its been proven time and time again across the country.

Tell that to the citizens that make their livelihoods on those lakes...!

@@karlnitz1126 I agree. I guess the lakes I was speaking of are ones that are left over from manufacturing in the early days. My state is riddled with lakes that are barely accessible to anyone held up by old dams.

I grew up on the Muskegon river, a town called Croton. The namesake for the Dam built in 1917 to produce hydroelectric for generations to come. Silly motto, considering today's political correctness, and wanting to give everything back to the dinosaurs. It's crazy man... Now our Governor wants to sell Michigan to the CCP. to line her pocket with her position some more.

As evident in videos from spring 2023 these rivers will flood whether there are dams or not.

@@dknowles60 Yes, this is ON TOP of the regular property taxes. By the way, they keep jacking UP the taxable values around here, even though the lakes are gone! So the base property taxes are even higher than they were when the lake was here.

And your property value will also go up at least $100,000 if you are on the waterfront because you will be able to once again stroll out to your dock and fish, boat, or swim. If your annual tax increase for the special assessment is $2,000/year then your special assessment is about $30,000. If you want to pay the $30,000 as a lump sum you will restore $100,000 plus in value. Sounds like a no brainer to people who are good at math.
