2023 and I just finished Cross Game. Cannot believe I missed this masterpiece. I watched the last episodes for like 10 times already! Kou and Aoba make my heart melt every time.

I wish they would remake H2. The anime didn't cover the whole manga. I like Cross Game but I like H2 more because it is more realistic and have better games than Cross Game. I don't like the ending of H2 though.

I always get this feeling of emptiness and loneliness after watching the ending, after fifthy episodes you kinda get emotionally attached to the characters, you wait anxiously for a week for the next episode to know what will happen to them, and then it just ends before you knew it, no more waiting, you can't really adapt to it at first for a while I feel sort of lost and sad, perhaps it's just me

Hi guys, this is my take on the whole Kou x Aoba story. Let me divide it into parts for easy understanding. Some viewers of this anime can get confused about when both the characters started to like each other, and what is the lie in the last episode, It's long but read it if u want to understand Kou X Aoba well. part 1 - their childhood = Wakaba is very close to only two people which is Kou and Aoba, but Wakaba likes Kou as more than a friend (applicable to that age), so she always spends time with him, which makes Aoba hates Kou for stealing her time with Wakaba and Kou understands Aoba's hate towards him too. That's why Wakaba wishes for them to become good friends because she sees how much they both are alike in personalities. Now many people confuse here that Aoba hated Kou, she just simply disliked him for taking her sister's time while she was unable to understand what Wakaba sees in Kou that she likes him so much and spends more time with him rather than her. part 2 - Wakaba dies, Kou immediately knew how hard it is on Aoba, but he couldn't console her due to their bickering relationship. While Aoba also knew how much it was hard for Kou too, both couldn't do anything because of their relationship. Yet here too Aoba couldn't understand what Wakaba liked about Kou, but she knew their love was sincere, and even Kou during one episode asks " what did WAKABA LIKED ABOUT ME?" to which Aoba replies "I would like to know that as well". Some of you may wonder why Aoba still hates Kou? It wasn't hatred at this point, it is just a behavior they couldn't get rid of and Aoba always remembers how Wakaba said don't steal Kou from me, so she continues with that behavior and keeps her distance. At this point, there are no romantic feelings, but she doesn't even dare to show her true feelings of liking towards him. Like how she wishes Kou to become a better baseball player in the initial episodes like her sister has prophesized (Diamon arc) but doesn’t openly show instead she secretly wishes. While Kou had always sought to become someone that Aoba will admire from get go. At this point Aoba is afraid might end up liking Kou (not romantic way yet) which she isn’t used to at all and Kou unknowingly thrives harder to become a man Aoba likes. I think he is always been attracted to Aoba subconsciously which he isn’t aware of yet. Part 3 - Wakaba's last dream is the only thing that brings them together. Aoba gives tremendous help to Kou in improving his pitching for sake of her sister’s dream. She wants to make her deceased sister live again through the dreams she had. Despite their hatred relationship, Kou and Aoba help each other. But as the episodes progress, you can subtly see Kou slowly getting attracted to Aoba. which he wasn't aware of, like how he gets jealous of Mizuki, and how he is always curious about her dating situation. Honestly same situation for Aoba too, she sees Kou as a lazy guy but now seeing his hard work and efforts, she gets drawn closer to him (sometimes people who u know all your life, new feelings could be hard to understand). They just couldn't understand their feelings, but both knew they don't hate each other and they like each other and are slowly getting attracted, yet unaware, although Kou is more ahead in his feelings than Aoba though if you ask me, still they continue with their old behavior. (part 2 reasons). part 4 - people surrounding them start to root them and push them closer, but at this point, they only do that because they know Kou and Aoba like each other and they are just lying and they all know that only those two understand each other well. part 5 - Akane appears, Aoba despite liking Kou pushes him towards liking Akane ( it is her guilt and she wants Kou to be happy again,) so she finds information about Akane and gives it to Kou. Even his baseball friends push him toward Akane, which they do because they want to see him happy and be with someone that resembles Wakaba. But at this point, Kou is clearly attracted to Aoba and he is aware of that too, but he doesn't say because Aoba is at a hesitating phase, he is also in a little hesitating phase that Aoba might not be into him at all given their past, so that's why he pushes Aoba to like Azuma. but one thing is clear, Kou just sees Akane as a friend and likes how much she is like WAKABA, but he doesn't see her in a romantic way. If you remember, at one episode Akane gifts Kou keychain and says "Akaishi was easier for me, for some reason yours is hard" subtly hinting he has feelings for Aoba. part 6 - now in the final episodes, at this point Kou and Aoba like each other romantic way, and even other people get to know they like each other a lot. That's why when Senda directly asks Kou if likes Aoba, Kou immediately replies yes, but tells that he is just lying. Because till now they have lied about their feelings when they liked each other from the beginning, (it may not be romantic at first, but they still liked each other). Kou now wanted to express his feelings and show he is speaking the truth. To prove this when Aoba finally asks him if he likes her more or Akane more, he says "can he lie? (I think he only said this to tell her that he is also lying about feelings from the beginning just like she did) to which she replies "yes" and he nonchalantly says he will take her to koushein, he will throw 160km ball (the kind of man Aoba wants to DATE), and he loves her. Aoba knew it wasn't a lie, but she decides to see it through and when in the final episode he proves he wasn't lying by throwing a 160km ball and wins the match, she knew he too feels the same as her from the beginning and now they confirmed how much they like each other to one another. That's why when Kou hugs her, she slaps and says "didn't I tell u I always hated you," (which is THE LIE) to which he replies "yes I know,". Kou finally gets rid of the leftover guilty feeling Aoba has towards Wakaba by achieving the Koushein dream. TBH Kou has already moved on from Wakaba, it was evident when he says he can give up koushein dream if it means Akane will become healthy again. He realizes that there are things far more important in life, which is the currently living people and his happiness. He now wants Aoba to be honest with her feelings and he can only make this happen by achieving Wakaba's dream and throwing 160km ball. To be frank, even Aoba couldn't deny her feelings, for her to ask Kou if he likes her or Akane more, is a proof she is in love with him. They both just wanted to achieve Wakaba's dream and get peace with her death. They just wanted to give their all, even if they lost the final match to Ryuou, I guess they both would still confess their feelings. Though it would take a little more time. Lucky for them it worked in their way and they won the tournament.
