Trae's really not that cocky. Honestly I think this is one of those cases where his confidence is confused with cockiness/arrogance, because he doesn't back down from anyone despite his "small" stature. Like how would you respond if a sold out crowd of 40,000 or so people are chanting F you for no other reason than that you're just really good at your game? And all Trae did was call them out on it when they suddenly went quiet when they realized their team was about to lose. That kid's more mature than a lot of players older than he is (e.g. Kevin Durant). Trae has taken A LOT of criticism even before gracing an NBA court and still does after doing nothing but produce.

I just stopped hating Trae when he becomes good. He was seriously overrate and overhyped in the early seasons of his career. My hatred went as far as when he acted like he has Kobe's blessing to be his protege, I was mildly annoyed. That guy was supposed to be Giannis. Today though, well, Trae is not Steph Curry, but pretty close. He is still very young and have many years left to grow. I think that Doncic trade works well for both franchises. While Luka is the superior player, his playing style would make Mavs stuck with it for years to come, while Hawks has much greater flexibility to build around Trae. I think I hated Devin Booker once for the same reason: a superstar of a tanking team. Well, somebody gotta score 20 points in modern NBA game right? Somebody has to take that role, right? But then again, Booker proved that he can do it in the playoffs too, provided that he got the right backup. Christian Laettner is another overrated guy, who I simply don't like because he simply was in that dream team because of that silly American basketball team rule at the time needing to feature at least one college player.
