I know he's dirty as hell lol, but Bill Laimbeer actually was one of the best centers in the NBA during his time. He was a really good player. It's just that the dirty plays overshadowed how damn good he was

I bet he was always realistic and knew he was overachieving so he didn't mind the recognition. He literally sacrificed his own image to win. So he got lost in history. Nobody realized he was actually an elite center and the prototype stretch big. He also brought an x-factor every time he played - he let his opponents know he can just whack them at anytime throughout the game thus being in their head most of the time.

I never liked the laimbeer, but he can shoot, he is tough, he rebounds, he gets under opposing player's skin, and he can take punches and play dirty. That is good news for his team, but bad bad news for others. The Pistons would never have won their first 2 rings without him.

Bill Laimbeer is a Hall of Famer who embraced the Bad Boys of the Pistons squad. I don’t think people liked him as a player. He was a better coach than he was a player. He played with the likes of Isiah Thomas, Dennis Rodman and many others🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀

I grew up a Blazers fan....don't worry I gave that up. I still remember Bill wouldn't stop hitting threes in the 1990 finals. Jordan also did that to the Blazers but that's to be expected. Laimbeer was a bit of outlier in his day. Big guy who could play good post defense, rebound, but also shoot. Big guys weren't supposed to be able shoot back then. He was a very useful player to have around even without his very effective mind games and "chippiness".

guy who absolutely should be in HoF but will never be allowed (well, maybe as a WNBA coach; he was one of the best W coaches). He played hard and with 'win above everything' mentality which is good. But he is hated (and he worked really hard for this ;) ). I personally love his game (and Bad Boys generally; I love attitude 'I dont care what other say about me, I am here to win no matter what').

Prince of Darkness or the Great Agitator are too literary for a player that gets his feet under players to intentionally hurt them. And, it's worth noting that pretty much ALL the clips you showed of Laimbeer getting pounded were the result of his aggression leading up to that moment. There are plenty of games where centers who punched or otherwise engaged with Laimbeer played in physical games but it never got out-of-hand or dirty. Bill Laimbeer's actual nickname should just be The Spoiled A$$hole from Detroit.
