Problem with interupting attacks is that in the manga these attacks happen immediately. One panel they attack is being prepared the next it's being launched. The anime slows it down to make it more dramatic.

The problem with trying to interrupt your opponent's move when you've never seen it before is that you don't know how to safely interrupt it. For all Goku knows, running behind Roshi could be exactly what Roshi wants him to do. Plus, there is a _very strong_ tendency for characters in DB to want to be able to withstand their opponents' attacks rather than outsmart or avoid them. In other words, Goku would much rather take the hit than dodge it.

I think Goku fell under the hypnosis because he's very simple-minded. In this episode it's shown that Roshi can use the Kame Hame wave at their maximum level, but it was also interesting the technique Bankoku Bikkuri Shō (the lighting surprise attack).

As others have already said, the anime and manga differ in that the anime timing is stretched out compared to the manga. Powerups in the manga are WAY faster; indeed the pace of action is almost disconcerting when one is used to the languid pacing of the anime.

Awe now I'm crying... I forgot about this scene. Feel better Suzy i had serious thumb injury before, the pain lasted for a couple months. It stopped hurting eventually but i recommend you get it checked out. I was left wondering what was happening with my thumb and pain comes back sometimes. Nip it in the bud just in case.

It's no shame. This *is* his heritage as of this point in the narrative. What comes in later series changes the underlying narrative enough that it could arguably be a different story. It almost becomes a crutch for the story and way too much depends upon it. It's why I'd argue that OG DB is the superior portion of the overall franchise.
