Nice video - so simple. Cool to share this. Pretension can be approx half barrel length + 10 centimeters. I used that as standard and works very nice for16mm bands.

Cheers. Not yet! I live in Brazil and rollers only on imports I'm going to convert my Rob Allen in a roller. Thanks for the video. Helped me a lot! Sorry for my English.

This was super informative and I finally understood how to achieve pretension after wanting to convert my rail gun to a roller. So I could use a set of scales to measure pretension back to the handle also?
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ash, cheers for watching:) I would just measure the total span from pretension point to loaded position. Ideal length is 300-350% stretch, so if that length is 1200mm for example, you could cut your bands somewhere around the 400mm mark. The instructions from Manny do all the legwork for you though and tell you exactly how long your bands should be so I would just use that. Failing that, Coatesman has an entire unrolling the roller series where he makes recommendations for this. Having the correct band diameter to shaft diameter is super important too. - Shrek

Great video. I am a spearfisher myself. I have a vintage beuchat 100cm that I am planning to convert into a roller. These roller heads look like they are pretty universal and can fit into almost any conventional speargun dont they?
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing3 жыл бұрын
Hey man, for sure. It does depend on the diameter of your barrel but check out the specs for each kit at rollerspeargun.com

@@NoobSpearoSpearfishing hey man, what if the railing on the rube does not match with the roller muzzle? wont that affect the accuracy?
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing3 жыл бұрын
@@Gearsub I'd imagine that it could slightly effect the flight of the shaft if it was deviating however the it's such a small part of the track it probably has minimal impact on trajectory. Talk to Emanuel for a more specific answer. Shrek

Hey, Great tutorial. I'd like to do this with the new double roller setup they have. I know that you preordered the bands made, but where can you find out what length they should be if you want to use your own rubber. If you don't know that, can you tell me the thickness of the rubber and length you have on your 1.1? Good starting point. I can interpolate from there.
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing5 жыл бұрын
Manny will tell you what rubber length he recommends when you contact him:) The red rubber he uses is excellent btw
@DeepBlueSpirit24 жыл бұрын
Rob Allen recommends approx 1/2 barrel length plus 10 centimeters for each rubber. I personally like the equation - works fine for me.

G'day when you cut the barrel doesn't that remove the rob allen bung thats in there ?? and does this affect the buoyancy of the speargun at all ? Cheers for the video mate it was super helpful
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing7 жыл бұрын
Hey mate cheers for watching. Yes you will cut off the plug in the muzzle end from memory. However it doesn't matter as the Manny Sub conversion kit has it's own plug. That's why you must lubricate the "O" rings to get them in. As for buoyancy the gun is still perfect underwater and I've had no water incursion.
@kyle32603 жыл бұрын
Do you have to re plug the barrel if you cut it?
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing3 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you cut below the existing plug. Most barrels are similar and I believe the conversion kit comes with a replacement
@Mr.Mike3617 жыл бұрын
Do you think that with the drill in the trigger works that easy also with other trigger/handle ?
@OrcaStalka7 жыл бұрын
Hi Micha, Manny sub provides instructions that cover conversions for other guns besides Rob Allen. I know of many other brands that have been converted.

hey mate, what size power head should i order ? for a rob allen tuna
Wouldn't it be more powerful (better) the longer it is?
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing4 жыл бұрын
With roller technology you can have a shorter speargun with greater range due to the bands pulling (under tension) for longer! Sorry for the slow response
@nicklausb4 жыл бұрын
Why did the gun need to be cut down (shortened)?
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing4 жыл бұрын
Usually shorter roller guns and preferable due to increased range with greater travel. Could I cut my gun down to any length?
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing3 жыл бұрын
Theoretically you can cut them down to a very short length. You do need some Barrel though for band stretch - I wouldn't go smaller than 500mm but people do.
@keithwong70313 жыл бұрын
@@NoobSpearoSpearfishing oh sweet ! This means id need a spear shaft of appropriate length respective to the barrel?
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing3 жыл бұрын
@@keithwong7031 100% roller gun makers love a shorter overhang on shafts though. I'm not completely sure why but I believe from a pure accuracy POV the less overhang provides less potential deviation in shaft flight. Ask guys like Chris Coates, Duncan Henderson, or Manny Bova

hey where did u buy the premade rollers
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing7 жыл бұрын
PelagicProductions direct from mannysub @ rollerspeargun.com it all comes in the Roller Conversion kit. www.noobspearo.com/the-vault-blog/roller-power-head-conversion-first-impressions/

Ok thnx can u buy the rubbers premade from anywhere but
@NoobSpearoSpearfishing7 жыл бұрын
Not sounding biased or anything but Mannysub rubbers are perfect for roller guns. Everything comes in the kit. If you do go elsewhere learn about progressive vs reactive types and choose wisely. Pre-tension is a big discussion as well - thankfully if you buy the Mannysub kit it provides the exact specs. If you are full DIY though check out Coatesmans blogpost on rollers as there's a bit to think about. Thanks for watching man and good luck

Why did you cut a part of the barrel ?
@OrcaStalka7 жыл бұрын
Hi Micha, I cut the barrel down because I only wanted 1.1m Roller. 1.1m is quite a long roller and will be good for blue water and around the reef.
