This is a very experienced and wise human being and musician! I'm 57 now and I went to music conservatory when I was young and I received my diploma. I felt always underrated and my teachers didn't detect and see my abilities. I felt a lot of frustration and than I went to Medical School afterwards. Today I'm a qualified general surgeon and suddenly I can perform Brahms Paganini- variations, Goldberg- variations or Petrouchka by Stravinsky . Even if I didn' t touch the keys for more than 10 years and since that time only from time to time and not that much. But it works. Listening to this great musician, I appreciate that he also respects the "small career ". And that's what I've got in the autumn of my life. Without audience because I'm to shy. But I still can play whatever my desire is because I myself feel like a slave of arts....Thank you maestro Ashkenazy!

Despite the amateurish video footage I found this interview with Ashkenazy fascinating. Many of this modest mans thoughts and observations are so true and enlightening.

Zimmerman recorded the Chopin concertos as soloist and conductor. Very good.

Thanks a lot for the video! Great interview, but a terrible video thumbnail, if I may say so. That thumbnail makes Ashkenazy look evil; almost demonic! 😱 I've interviewed Ashkenazy myself many years ago, and I can tell you that he is one of the nicest musicians I have ever met. Maybe you could change the thumbnail? Ashkenazy deserves better.😇

It's the thumbnail KZbin assigned. I kinda like it. It's too much work for me to change it. I don't get any pay for doing this....

@@noochinator- No problem! It's a great video anyway. It was interesting to hear one of his sons talk about him. I've noticed that there are some missing parts in this interview/class. Do you happen to know why the interview is not complete? Thanks!

@@j.vonhogen9650 That's all that was on the disc I was working with. Yes, I noticed some things had been cut out too....

How _lovely_ to end with the comment, “One of the best stories of all time!” when it was cut off and we didn’t get to hear it. And is it possible to have anyone more pompous as an interviewer than Dubai?? You’d think _he_ was the musical genius who condescended to ask his questions, which were so awkward and meant to somehow elevate him over Ashkenazy.

Well, Ashkenazy agreed to be interviewed by Dubal, and to visit Dubal's class at Juilliard, so he must have had a higher opinion of Dubal than you do.
