high nook! this is GRUMPY/GrumpyOldgamer/Lumpygravy who hooked you up with a few games for you years ago! GLAD you did this! Back during the kickstarter.. the game was in danger of failing to reach the goal.. so I stepped up and laid down a $500 pledge for KeeperRL.... SO GLAD I MADE A DIFFERENCE! And on a crazy old man's disability income too.......... haven't been streaming for a few years, fled civilization when Covid shutdown weekend happened.. living in the Mohave desert in a Joshua tree forest these days. making music to try to find peace with my disability issues.... just got back indoors, live in tiny shed or trailer basically homeless last 2 years

Something I still don't understand.. What's the best way to get more powerful units? My current game just had a werewolf demanding private quarters, but the recruits that show up are still kinda basic. Also is there any way to err.. stick vampire's legs back on? One of mine is taking the idea of being a night crawler a little too literally!

Your video was pretty helpful. As a seasoned nethack player I really enjoy putting my full party on full control. I read a review that said it was tedious, but it's just a play pattern that you get used to.

It's really not that bad, and so worth it in how much it opens up tactical options. I like using a lowly goblin as a shield and switching places with another unit, letting them move 1 tile for free so they can still use said turn for an attack. Then that unit may attack again, and you can use the goblin or other creature to switch places so the main unit is out of harm's way. I raised my eyebrow when he didn't bring the keeper because it's too dangerous. My keeper always comes along, and it's pretty easy to keep him out of danger with a chain of switching places

I just purchased this game. I've always loved dungeon keeper and this seems like that plus more. I do wish this had a bit more graphical fidelity (the 3d isometric view of DK was really great.) but it looks fun.

That's the main trade-off of the traditional roguelike. Graphics are sacrificed in favor of complex game mechanics. Idk if KeeperRL has any isometric tilesets, a lot of roguelikes do though, so you might look around.

Stupid question about the necromancer class... i remember vampire nobles being able to craft items, did that get a change somehow? Neither my necromancer nor my vampires are crafting even the basic stuff! Did i miss something?? Haven't played for a while so i'm not sure if i missed another change with the class. Question about the difficulty scaling: does it just go up at a set rate (so if you turtle up for a while and take things slow, you’ll get crushed eventually), or does it scale with you? Also question about adventure mode: Can you recruit guys to join your team along the way, if someone dies, etc?

Chances are that the recording software only records the game which makes it look fullscreen. He probably has the bars too we just cant see it.

I like it...but really disappointed that the only way to level is combat. Giving people different choices in how they want to play is what makes a great sandbox vs a good one. I would like to be able to level through passive means as well.

Did you watch the video? The differences are pretty obvious. It's similar to DF in how the fortress operates, although a lot more simple. The combat is totally different, which is what KeeperRL focuses on more than fort simulation.

@@XxXMrSisterFisterXxX Well, if you tell me that the only difference is the simplification of fortress operation and that the combat is different, doesnt sound all that convincing. Take rocket leage for example, instead of cars put bikes and the ball is a pentagon, fundamentally is still a copy of RL.

@@MiriadCalibrumAstar by that logic Halo was a copy of Call of Duty, which is just a copy of Quake, which is a copy of Doom. This would be more accurate actually. These games all play more similarly to each other than KeeperRL does to DF Once you're past the early game, fortress management moves to the back burner. Then you're spending most of your time doing the thing that you literally can't do in DF, controlled tactical combat. The variety of creatures, spirits, demons, their abilities, items, sonnets, etc. make for complexities that do not exist in DF combat. It's not a world sim or base building game. There are elements of that, but it's more of a tactical fantasy RPG. Just compare for yourself. Both games are free. It's not my job to sell you on it

While DF focuses on Building and economy, KRL focuses more on "action"; It sounds like a good fun then. Quite different of what ive got from the video.

@@MiriadCalibrumAstar that's it. Don't get me wrong, I love DF, but the systems are so deeply complex it can be overwhelming. I've played off and on for a little over a decade, coming back to it every 1 - 2 years and spend as much time playing as I do reading the wiki and bay12 forums. Keeper keeps (lol) that part simple enough that I can just play the game without worrying about farming, cooking, brewing, hunting, fey moods, tantrum spirals, vampires (KeeperRL does have vampires, but they're a good thing) catsplosions, and all the things that can emerge. Those things are fun, I'm just not always in the mood for that. Sometimes a little predictability is nice.
