Thanks for sharing. I didnt think of chores as Extra chores. It was just daily chores. Your cows look very well cared for with all you do for them. Thank you

@@ronaldfeuerstein435 I understand. My father in law didn't count farming as a job. It was his love and hobby. I need to be reminded of that too sometimes. I try to remember to look back and appreciate a job well done!

Now i understand your idé about a new barn! It's gonna be a little strange when the new barn is ready for the cows. But even a relief when they learn how it works whit the robot and everything.

@@MrPa1971 Yes, it was a matter of build new barn or quit milking cows. I hope for the best experience for the cows going into the new barn!

My dad always used salt for pink eye. Works great
@HollcanaFarm20 күн бұрын
@@davidfahl9106 I've never heard of that. Blue cobalt salt or white feed salt? Just put it in the eye or do you water it down or what? We used to like using special formula mastitis treatment but we can't get it anymore so are just using depocillin.
@davidfahl910620 күн бұрын
@@HollcanaFarm we just used table salt. We would put a little grain in a bucket and when the cow was eating toss a small handful of salt in the infected eye. Worked every time

@@allendavidson6608 I really hope that it makes a difference. They say you still spend a lot of time in the barn but I'm hoping it's a bit less labour intensive!

I can only imagine what your thinking about what will be compared to what is now. ? for me is "how many cows will you be milking in the new project/?"
@HollcanaFarm20 күн бұрын
@@mikeklehr7105 We want to milk 60 cows which is the limit for one robot. It is hard to imagine how everything will work in the new barn. I keep forgetting that we won't have to both.

Is it a like chain driven that clean out the step down where the cow waste get swept in to ?
@HollcanaFarm20 күн бұрын
@@danielrandolph9170 Yes, it is a chain with flights on it that is moved by a motor in the pump house. It is then dropped into a pit that pumps it into a pile outside.

When i took over the farm whitin 2 years i had build me a freestall ,never had any regrets because i had to do everything all by myself so i dont miss the old barn in terms of labour, on the other hand its much harder for the cows then it was in the old barn but economics rules and we dont have the money to hire any labour every day so thats how we roll, thanks and greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer

Get a scissors and trim up the cows tails would be much better 😮
@HollcanaFarm18 күн бұрын
@@ThomasOtoole-t1y We have to before they go in the new barn anyway. They want them cut at the bottom of the tail bone so they don't get caught in the brushes of the robot. We like them long when they are outside for swatting flies.
