THAT!! THAT SCENE! Awful I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything as horrifying like it, when I first saw the scene I assumed they were already dead and digested at that time. But no you hear them still screaming meaning they’ve been suffering for HOURSSS! Then that silence afterwards and you know they’re gone…followed by the blond pouring over the house. The cinematography of that scene is unforgettable.

They screamed nonstop for hours. I would’ve thought their voices would give out, but the pain forced them to keep going. @@DarthTurducken Actually the book said that it was a person before entering the dimension. And the whole group that spent the night in the area, all of them got drunk and they were imitating the bear noises but the book said as well that when the creature made the sounds back it was like hearing a person agonize in pain, like if the bear itself was not an animal but a human that got infected and because of the infection either by spores or a sting, slowly they got a metamorphosis.

The thing is, I think the horse was blocking the way. That’s why the woman stops. But the people are still getting pushed up. It might also be why the blood comes raining down. The people weren’t able to finish being digested and got crushed and expelled, along with the horse after. Notice how the TMZ guy stops screaming a lot sooner. Nothing was blocking the way for him to be digested. Might also be why they all started screaming so loud. They were all being pushed up into each other. But that’s just my theory

I personally interpreted Jupe's actions as that him taking that survivors guilt with an unhealthy dose of denial. He didn't want to believe him being the only unscathed one was dumb luck, instead thinking maybe it was a sign he was special and could connect with any potentially (or definitely) dangerous creatures. So if a chimp who killed his cast offered him a fist bump instead, why not try befriending a eldritch style flying creature that regularly hoovered up horses?
@teengoogle
@teengoogle 2 жыл бұрын
yes, definitely!! i also believe this was symbolized by the upright shoe. there's a lot of discussion wondering what it could have meant (i've seen some claim it was what saved ricky's life by distracting him from looking in gordy's eyes, but i actually think it was the tablecloth that did that). i interpreted it as having fueled ricky's delusions of grandeur - he thought that it was a sign that he was special or "chosen", when (just like his unlikely survival) it was just an extremely lucky coincidence, not a divine symbol.

When I found out it was the alien creature, it terrified me more than it being a spaceship of aliens. Knowing both the horses and humans screaming and crying in the distance sky, goes to show how primordial the creature was. Only to obey it’s instinct to eat. And as the humans were been ingested was horrifying. The feeling of claustrophobia, and slowly being absorbed of your body’s flesh, bodily fluids, and self in the dark, can only make one feel sympathetic for some poor rodent or prey, who has not been properly killed by it’s devouring nemesis and swallowed alive.

I have an idea that JJ doesn't actually traditionally digest people as we see no gastric organs or bodily fluids when it 'unfolds'. The metal it swallows is also unaffected. I think it just squishes it's prey to eat the organic stuff. What's causing people to instantly scream and say "it burns" is being low level electrocuted by it's bio-electric capabilities. It'd also explain why it shoots out the metal components so violently, it's acting like a living rail gun.
@nobodyimportant2510
@nobodyimportant2510 2 жыл бұрын
I never took that into consideration it does have those electro static ion organs which enable it to fly and such, when I saw it unfold and puff up I remember saying to myself there’s no way this thing eats like most normal earth organisms do. It being a living rail gun has some merit as we see metal objects get expelled faster than the other objects.
@deechonada

@deechonada 2 жыл бұрын
@@galinthias639 considering our bodies convert random edible food and water into hydrochloric acid, its not a stretch that JJ secretes some sort of acid maybe in a gaseous state to steam the meat off the bones. Also i think It's interesting that they felt "hot" knowing that in the flying saucer configuration JJ has multiple pockets and folds, all he has to do is decrease the volume of certain sacks of air to increase the pressure thus heating up the space inside. The heat they felt was probably the area they were in gradually decreasing in volume until they were squished under immense pressure. There is a “Behind the Scenes” video where they discuss the physical structure of JJ and how the hole/maw lead into the “throat” which essentially was along the upper part of the creature (in a radial fashion). Imagine instead of going into a stomach cavity, being digested as you went through the esophagus and then through the small and large colon. You get a much more visceral experience.

This scene also taps into one of the most primal fears that we have as animals: being eaten alive. A thing big enough to swallow you whole just devoured you, and yet you're still conscious. You're completely trapped, barely able to move, terror and adrenaline ripping through your body as you struggle in what you know is a losing battle. And all you can do is scream.

After realizing the parallels to Gordy and Jean Jacket, and remembering how Gordy looked at Jupe before getting shot, a part of me thinks Jupe thought he was the exception to how wild animals attack with rage. Like Jupe and Gordy reached out to each other. Maybe Jupe thought the chimp had come down from his rage high and sought out a friend. With that kind of mindset, he later believed he could somehow tame the creature we know as Jean Jacket. Just my two cents/headcanon.

One of my favorite aspects of the movie was just how terrifyingly plausible the alien was, they consulted an actual biologist and pieced together this unholy monster that is clearly from a world very different and yet at the same time very much alike as ours. We often envision aliens as little green men with funny looking heads, but these otherwordly life forms can be anything and they delivered with this entirely new spin on aliens.

Probably. As someone say above you can hear the "it burns" right before they all die. But i have the theory that it just crush them inside, because in the house scene, the screams are heard a lot, until we get a fast shot inside the creature and we see its "muscles" or "tentacles" do a specific move, and then just silence, no more screams. So for me the creature just crush them inside very fast.

There are so many things that made this scene so chilling. • Jupe felt like he was in control (as people do). • He mentions that the first horse seemed like it was going home • They all got sucked up into the UFO and you think "whoa, they're getting beamed up to the mothership... COOL!" but then you see the organic interior & people being moved through a membrane • Then you realise that this isn't some amazing celestial event, they are literally being digested slowly by a huge animal.... that's it... that's how they end • It appears over the house and they are still screaming in pain and for help • Then the inside of the creature contracts and you hear a crushing sound. The screaming immediately stops and blood and the undigested metal and plastic falls to earth. • Then you realise what happened at the start of the movie. The alien was basically shitting out the remains of other victims. • THEN! You realise why the "ship" made a screeching sound while it flew through the air The lack of understanding and control, mixed with hindsight is definitely what made this movie so good. This was just a huge hungry alien creature that saw us as prey. The second it pulls your feet from the ground untethered, that's it, there is nothing you can do. it's going to suck you up, digest you alive, crush you, and shit your keys and coins out. I absolutely loved this movie. It was one of those gems i saw a trailer for... forgot about and then watched on a whim

Two things! : 1. What makes the Star Lasso scene even creepier and more depressing is that after everyone was eaten, you can hear Jupe's voice playing on replay at Jupiter's Claim and that it just keeps playing all day and all night and so on while us, the theater audience, know what happened to Jupe and the other attendees. Jupe, his family and the audience had to experience that chaotic and isolating death and Jupe's voice just echoes out into the empty air after their physical bodies have all been destroyed. The only remnants of those people existing are their keys, wallets and the memories their friends and families have of them. 2. When the end credits roll at the end of the movie the screen changes through a color gradient similar to what JJ's insides look like.

I think the most unsettling part was right before this, when Jupe was looking right at Jean Jacket. His expression is so hard to read imo. He looks distressed, shocked, and a little sad that his so called connection to JJ was all in his head, and that he wasn’t special, and that he damned himself, his family, and all of the attendees and workers there at the time. Biggest chills was seeing all the dust eventually block out his face, and then next thing we know they’re screaming in collective agony before they’re crushed. Heavy stuff. Great video, cheers.

Another way to also look at that scene is that this could be a commentary on how child actors are also exploited along with animals for a sort of spectacle and on the trauma child actors may face just for the viewer's pleasure. Child actors growing up may not be able to move on from clinging onto showcasing this "spectacle" that it may end up "consuming" them and their loved ones. Hence why this happened at the family and friends showing: all of those people in the audience at that point are people who Jupe is close with, which makes this feel even worse that he's there, knowing that what he did made everyone there who he loves suffer a horrible fate.

Different type of helplessness, but similarly doomed with no chance of escape, and those actually happened to millions.

Like I'm getting comfort from the fact that I'm writing this comment for example and I'm confident someone will read it and be able to relate; that will ameliorate my discomfort; which is exactly what all these people had stripped away from them, despite having their closest connected people there. Not sure if this is intentional or not, but I like how some of Jean Jacket’s traits seem to be inspired by War of the Worlds. The sounds it makes sound a lot like the tripods’ horns in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the book, and there’s also the fact that you can’t tell if Jean Jacket is a animal or a machine at first (which is also a trait that the tripods share in War of the Worlds). Again, I don’t know if it’s intentional or not, but it’s still cool and really fitting for “NOPE”.

Ya' know, I just realized the other significant component of horror: *injustice.* Think about why you feel so awful and terrified for characters in, say, Color Out Of Space (2019), Tremors, or this film. It's mostly because they're almost entirely sympathetic, grounded, and it helps when they're people so similar to people you may know (i.e., the elderly couple in Tremors). Seeing people, not one-dimensional caricatures, suffer a horrific fate so beyond their control when they've done nothing to deserve it just adds a piece of indignation which mixes too well with the classic Lovecraftian sense of utter helplessness; *good people are dying, dying in agony, but there's nothing anyone can do about it.*

The simple reason it hit me so perfectly is the reason the whole movie works so well for me pacing wise. We start off with the suspenseful mystery, then when it’s finally time see the “saucer” we are shown that nah this ain’t a regular alien film, this is a monster movie. The people flying in like tiny ants, the shot of JJ’s single uncaring eye organ looking at the camera like “yep, this is what’s happening and there’s nothing they or you can do about it”. Then finally we get the grand action pack finale that really makes it feel like a new age Jaws. And funny enough everyone is saying from that point on that the audience was being digested, I disagree I think that after the horse prop JJ literally couldn’t properly consume anything correctly and the “crush we hear right before the blood rain is him clenching his esophagus basically crushing all of them so he could puke out the prop horse. Those poor people where stuck confused for hours just to get instantly turned into pulp.

This is my first horror film that I've suggested to people, that one scene alone scared me. This movie didn't rely on jump scares and yet it had the greatest effect on me of any other scary movie.

No I definitely felt a more visceral terror from this scene than any of the Gordy scenes. Personally the not knowing, being lost in what you're seeing and not understanding it but just seeing and hearing that it was PAINFUL, it's terrifying because it's unimaginable horror. It's something removed from reality. The Gordy scenes were brutal and bloody and kind of numbing in some way. They were also simply tragic, and shocking. But not bone chillingly terrifying like the 'consumption' scene. For me, THAT is what will stick in my mind from the film. It was deeply disturbing. I found myself shaking from them on whenever there were Jean Jacket encounters, because I was left to wonder the mechanisms of this creature, and the demise of the people that were sucked up by it.

Personally I can’t pick a favorite between the two as they’re very different films, but I am one of the few that puts them on the same level, and I definitely like Nope more in a lot of ways.

Scenes like this always make feel the mooost uncomfortable. Not only the claustrophobia aspect but also the thought of being swallowed in one piece, being stucked in this extremely tight, dark and warm area and on top slooowly diggested while still being alive (even though in this movie I think they get killed quite fast) Nope! That gives me huge chills °^°

Personally I just found the scene really visceral, perhaps there's dormant phobia of being digested idk But what really got to me is the way how you weren't really isolated to a singular experience, every time there was movement you wouldn't hear one scream you heard all of their screams, it was an experience shared by all of them but despite that there wasn't anything they could do to help each other. It's like the antithesis of the abduction scene from the war of the worlds remake.

There were plenty of suspenseful, nerve-wracking scenes in Nope, but THIS is the part that had me genuinely horrified. The uncaring cruelty of a predator so much bigger and stronger than us, just injesting humans and animals as easily as a vacuum cleaner picks up crumbs, is already a very scary thought, but i had never actually imagined what it would feel like to be eaten alive by a giant monster. I always hope that victims in these types of sci-fi/fantasy situations will die quickly without extra suffering, but Nope made it very clear that these innocent people died in agony and confusion.

This scene horrified and traumatized me because it reminded me of a nightmare I had as a child. But honestly tho, what would make this scene even more terrifying is if Jean Jacket is actually just a newborn baby. And that the “Mothership” is still out there somewhere and we don’t wanna meet her.

Here's another thing worth considering: The concept of a flying saucer UFO came from a private pilot named Kenneth Arnold in 1947. When he saw a row of nine saucer like objects while out flying one evening...and now there's eight...

This is similar to 2005 War of the Worlds. The aliens kidnap people and consume them in that movie, but you never outright see it. In Nope, they show the alien(s) eating the people. The screaming, the distant cries, the raining down of clothes, pocket items, and other non-organic things that the alien(s) can’t digest.

Love the video but for me personally this wasn't the scariest scene in the movie to me, to me it was when the UFO was hovering over the house and it started raining blood, while also hearing the people screaming in the background then it stops, and not only does it rain blood (signifying they've died and been digested) but it also pours out all the knick knacks and personal items that belonged to the people like coins and stuff, the same kind of coins that killed OJ'S dad, that was the scariest scene to me

i think something you didn't say is the use of the black screen for a few seconds. when it cut to black after the last shot on Jupe, i thought we would go back to our protagonists leaving the fate of the people in the dark for now. Jordan Peele uses that cut to black a lot of time during this movie, mostly when a new part is starting with the horses names. By cutting to black here, he definitely played with our expectations and caught us in a place of rest after the storm
