I have to admit despite your review I still like the design and may buy one. The lock bar issue isn't a problem for me, at least it's jamming over to the side that locks it in place. I think the knife is small enough that I would remove the clip and just drop it in my pocket. You said it's cutting performance was good so if I can get it for 20 bucks I think its a keeper.

Hi , This is Mike Perrin with ESEE. None of the Churp folders I have seen have the problem with any "loose" tolerances. All of the ones I have seen, handled have excellent fit and finish. I have carried the production prototype of this knife for 6 months and it has never failed, never been sharpened and I have use dit really hard. The liner lock 'hump' is everyone's personal preference but it doesn't get in my way. As far as the problem with "contract ts" or whatever you heard about ESEEnoyt knowing that BRK was going to release it, that is all not true. We designed it and sent the design to BRK knowing they would release it. That's the intention and nothing misunderstood anywhere. If you have a CHurp that has problems with the fit or finish I strongly suggest you contact Blue Ridge and see if you can get an exchange rather than make a blanket statement that the whole production run is bad.) Mike

@diverfrog

I’ve had it over 3 months now, and it is a keeper. Great little knife for everyday use in an office environment. Small, not intimidating to other people, scary sharp. The blade is great, D2 so easy to touch up. Construction is very light like you said, would not cross my mind to use it for anything other than slicing, but for that, it’s great. The protruding liner lock is weird, but I don’t really mind to be honest. The micarta is cheap, the clip is huge, probably too big. But it’s a great little knife for $25. I have seen so many crappy one for more expensive than this one. Also, I have couple ideas for mods that I think will make it awesome! I do not regret and recommend it, as long as you know what you’re getting (I.e. not an ESEE 5, nor a Paramilitary 2, but a good little office friendly cutting instrument).

I don’t understand why they source out knives and put their reputation in others hands. I guess this one wasn’t supposed to be though. I was wondering if the feather sticking & mat and tube cutting might have loosened up the pivot area - there is a lot of washer or races space at the pivot point. It was good to see the ill-named "Churp" survive such hard use in the tests, but honestly the toughest work mine will ever see is disjointing fried chicken wings from overseas street vendors - and opening Amazon shipping cartons.

Salut !

I actually like mine. Blade is still centered. I don’t use it as a hard user, but as a cheap edc…it’s fine. Legal in most states as a two hand opener and a shorter blade. Weird that it’s in bearings tbh. The liner lock is that way so it’s easy with gloves on. Had to blue lock tight the clip too. Does well slicing and doing edc stuff though.

Where are all the bargain priced lockbacks? Only Buck seems to churn them out. I've heard lockbacks require more exacting machining than liner locks, but the real reason, I think, is that liner locks lend themselves well to open-back handle designs, not to mention the fidget factor in learning how to "snap open" liner locks - lockbacks seem harder to snap open.

I have one (just like you, curious as heck about this duck-billed platypus of a knife and pretty certain it was an experimental prototype that BRK decided to just push into production much to the surprise of Esee) and hate the liner-lock release crescent sticking up into the air. I think I'm going to grind mine flat, flush to the handle. I won't complain about having to dig my finger nail into the slot to release the liner lock. THIS HAS ONE CURRENT ADVANTAGE FOR ME: with the nail nick it makes my overseas vacation destination much happier than blades that "fly out" of the handle (all the rage in most modern knife designs, except classic "slow roll" Cold Steel TriAds) and thereby look very "weapon'y" to the local LEOs. The shape and blade shape and blade length are so sheeple friendly, yet comes with such great steel and tight tolerances versus, say, the classic Gerber LST. This has displaced the CRJB Ria for me. OH: for a safer liner lock lock-up, it pays to "flip" the blade open the last part so the liner lock edge snaps in place. Not in front of potentially critical eyes of course.

Not Chinese Manufactured folders.. it's greed for $$. Like KFC (a place known for fried chicken) selling hamburgers. Or Pizza Hut (a place known for pizza pies) selling tacos or orange chicken & fried rice. Expanding your product line is not trying to compete with small budget folders when *You specialize* in outdoor / survival fixed blades.. it's absolutely cooperate greed. And there is now a huge market for "Chinese Msnufactured" knives with premium steels because of companies like Kizer, We & Kershaw (most Kershaw's are now outsourced to China now - very few USA made models nowadays) for example. It's really bad because companies will continue to outsource knives to China like that if people don't stop buying Chinese manufactured. CORPORATE GREED. YES. I stand behind my original statement.

@@jackwagonhoedown4114 Yeah. That would be nice for EDC. A thinner, full flat grind Izula II. I've seen online, near mirror polished custom Izula's that have been shaved down on each side like you say

Liner locks suck! Make it a lock back and I'll buy two.

@@gideonstactical Shame too, I had high hopes because, well, usually a new ESEE is exciting & purposely made through trial & error. Seems like they tried to throw in some reto "Camillus Scout Knife" type liner lock button too. I have my vintage Camillus Scout knife with that type of brass lock that says "Push". I really think if they make a folder.. since they don't want to stay exclusively in the fixed blade realm.. they should make a Izula II folder or ESEE 3/4 folder.. same blade profile & handle ergonomics.. just in a foldable platform. Even as a collaboration or sold design.. this thing a $24 letter opener with D2 : (.
