One thing I like about Nope is that it had authentic black reactions. 😆 That’s the point of the name of the film too, how when black folks encounter a horror movie scenario IRL, we’re just like, “Nope!” and roll out/don’t go. And, no shade, but it’s one great benefit of having a director who understands how we would more realistically react. (That kind of thing is very important to me in books written by black authors too, little natural idiosyncrasies and reactions/actions.)

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the same people who have issues with race swapping characters are the same people who think women are naturally smooth and clean shaven all the time (Game of Thrones cough cough). So I don't wanna hear shit from them about realism or naturalism, or what the fuck ever cuz it it's obvious what the issue is. That being said I do feel bad that marginalized people only seem to get the scraps of already made characters. I'm a gay trans man, and the closest I can think of rn was Gaston's friends in Beauty and the Beast yk. And it's like how come we can't have new characters. I'm wondering how I would feel if Prince Eric was a trans man, and I genuinely don't know. I think the concept of a trans prince would make me so happy for a while, but then eventually it would hit me, like in beauty and the beast, that Disney is just covering their financial bases. There's a Black deaf mermaid from the little mermaid named Gabriella whose story I would've been fascinated to see. We already know about the Little Mermaid, and it just really sucks that Black children only seem to get hand me downs. And I don't blame those communities for being stoked, I blame Disney for being uncreative cowards.

Disney had been trying to do more diverse movies, like Moana, Encanto, Raya, Cocoa, Turning Red, Soul, etc. They chickened out on Luca, but hopefully they will have an openly gay character in the near future. I know they had a trans character show up for a second in the Baymax shorts and some Fox anchor lost their mind over it. For some reason, people focus on the live action characters. I like to think of it as Disney showing that anyone can adopt that princess. I remember being a kid and, as a kid, if you wanted to identify with a Disney princess, you had to look like her. Hopefully, kids growing up today can see two different looking Ariels and recognize them as the same character, and that character is not tied yo someone's outward appearance.

I hadn't heard about Flatley's Birdland. This is from the Guardian's review: Very often, Flatley has a secret half-smile with narrowed eyes; at other times his face is strangely blank and yet intent, like a tourist who has swum away from the other holiday-makers in the Mediterranean to secretly relieve himself in the sea. So, now I can't stop thinking about Steven Yuen's hat. The movie monster in Nope ABSOLUTELY looks EXACTLY like that hat when seen from underneath. Not so much from the top, but we also know it can change it's form. There's even a scene where it circles around Kaluya's character and the way the camera pans makes it look like a giant hat about to shrink down and perch on his head. Yuen's character's wife wears the hat in question for a moment once before putting it on Yuen's head and further encouraging his actions. He holds it when he turns from the crowd during his presentation to mutter "you're chosen" to himself. I think he's bonded to that hat and the hat is the monster's spawn. Thanks Maso for blowing my mind with what was probably just an off-hand quip.

So interesting factoid about the composer for the movie Prey (Sarah Schachner) has composed music for a bunch of Ubisoft games, games like Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Assassin's Creed Origins, Assassin's Creed Black Flag, Assassin's Creed Unity and Far Cry 3, she has worked on other video games but she has worked for Ubisoft the most. With this in mind I have two interesting questions for everyone, are there any other video game composers who have worked on movies? I feel as though there is a market of really good video game composers that with the right movie it could work incredibly well. Also my second question, are there any film composers who have worked on video games too? I'll answer this myself a little as I know Danny Elfman does music for one or more of the Fable games, but are there any others?

@@epicbruhmoment6985 I think it's a problem trying to combine the horror/action genres. In Friday the 13th or Halloween, The killer can win or lose and still be intimidating because of a supernatural disconnect. In the predator franchise, the predators don't have that because most of the time their defeated is because they are less clever or just straight up weaker then other predators. I watched a predator short film a long time ago where they fight some crusading knights and the predator wins. I want to see more predators that are smarter and more willing to be dicks with trickery. But most of this is just speaking from memory I do still like Prey, and I think the predators in AVP 1/2 were competent if I remember.

Prey was a surprisingly great movie, but I do have an issue with how how Naru dispatched the Predator, mainly because it makes the Predator look like a massive idiot. It knows that wherever the laser on its mask aims, that’s where its gauntlet/bolt gun/rail gun will fire, so why would his dumb ass think that the weapon would fire directly in front of him, straight at whatever it’s pointed at? Logically, what any non-moron warrior would do is disengage the laser-targeting system, therefore turning the gauntlet into a dumbfire weapon… so it would actually fire at what he wanted it to, and not at the back of his skull. A 1700 Native American girl is smarter than a highly advanced alien warrior… the only scene where I think it was written poorly, although the mountain lion scene is somewhat weak as well since the lion snuck up on 2 warriors (one of which was very experienced in hunting), and seemed to jump like 20 feet in the air to pluck him out of a tree. Then it knocked out Naru, but her brother just happened to arrive immediately after Naru got knocked out, otherwise why didn’t she have any bite marks? The animal wouldn’t just knock her unconscious, then sit there waiting around until someone showed up to rescue her. Not necessarily bad writing, just convenient to the story, but it could have been written/shown a little better. My only other issue is with Naru immediately understanding that the laser on the Predator’s mask is what guides the wrist weapon. I may have a completely incorrect understanding of what earlier civilizations would think when faced with current-day technology, but I doubt they would comprehend that a laser directs where a bolt would head towards. I think it is more likely that a Native American would think the Predator’s technology was some sort of magic or whatnot, or at the very least not understand what it was that they were seeing. And definitely not understand that “wrist-bow is controlled by red dot”. I don’t know if this is a legitimate gripe, but I think it is. I’m also an idiot though, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I thought The Sandman dropped the ball HARD after the first half, maybe three quarters of the show. The finale was such a wet fart, I was kind of in shock that I was still watching the same show.

Yep, the beginning was much stronger than the latter half of the show. I'll be rewatching the first few episodes for sure, the story about the girl and her brother is super meh.
