Whilst we're no experts, nothing stopped us. As long as we declared our relationship, we're pretty sure we would be within boundaries of law. But it just didn't feel right. When we say "we're biased" that means we really feel biased. We can't just undo that.

But it's ok to be bias. Everyone is to a certain extent with games they enjoy or themes. Very very happy you told us ahead of time that you worked on it, but good to hear your personal opinion too.

Here is what I know - your reviews are always unprecedented, brilliant, witty, clever and spot on. My gaming friends are in the midst of grinding through the world of Gloomhaven. I will admit that at first the game did not really appeal to me. I picked a tank like character but was disappointed to learn he did not have any neat bits of kit like massive axes, swords or other death dealing apparatus. Sticking with the game on subsequent scenarios has made me realize the hidden brilliance to this game. And, now I am hooked. One of the early keys to success is understanding how to play your group of selected cards. Of course, I mucked things up in the beginning and paid a steep price. Pulling a "miss" or minus point card at a critical juncture does still cause me to emit sounds that are not usually appropriate for any company. But, that is what makes the game so compelling. Thanks again for all that you two do to further the world of boardgaming.

You two have some really clever phrasing in your video, quite engaging in fact. As for the game, it looks to scratch that DnD itch so really looking forward to it. One of the things I enjoy most out of games with Legacy aspects is the weight and finality of some of your decisions. This looks to have that in spades.

I genuinely appreciate you guys saying from the start why you will be bias, not many would do that! I’m fairly new to board games, a friend showed me Descent 2nd ed about 6 months ago and I was hooked. Ordered it immediately and had to play solo with the road to legend app. My girlfriend took the piss a bit for how Id gone turbo nerd. So I asked her to join in and she immediately became my game buddy. Our copy of gloomhaven is on its way from the States and should be here next week.... aaaaaah! We aren’t the best at board games, but we have so much fun!

Great review! I am absolutely loving this game right now. at first it was a curiosity that grew with anticipation, but now it has turned into an obsession for me and my whole group. We are in love with this game. The turn to turn action, the strategy, the decisions in character growth, the world, the narrative, the surprises (we just opened our first envelope!). It truly is an unique experience that I think I actually will end up finishing. Which is crazy and something I would have never predicted. But I must say, I am SUPER curious as to what you two think of the game. I heard your initial impressions on your podcast ages ago, but I want to know MOAR!You guys rock!!!

Also there are lots of retailers accepting pre-orders, I'm in Spain and it arrived bang on time and the KS order package could be tracked online and I even got a nice email. If you do the KS watch out for the pledge manager email some weeks after the KS has ended to maybe finalize add ons / shipping etc or changes to your delivery address.

Superb video. For those watching this as a rules overview, just about everything is spot on. One error, however, is that you do not use your character's attack modifier deck. You use one of four generic 20-card decks that eventually gets augmented by your class' attack modifier deck. It's a small but key rule, not to be overlooked.

@ 3:45 You lost me at a dungeon crawler with no dice lol What happens in a 5 hr game if you die at 4 hrs and 59 minutes? Are there resurrection spells or do you start all over? There's pretty much a reason I've ignored Gloomhaven. I didn't ignore the money pit of X-wing. I'll tell you one thing that doesn't look good are the standees shapes and stands. Deal breaker for me. Here I was just going to buy it for the paintable minis.

I think that gloomhaven could have been so much more than "just" a dungeon crawler and to be honest I thought it would be.. Too bad all the good fluff in the game does not really get utilized in a roleplaying manner and just feels unimportant since you then just go from dungeon to dungeon. This game could have been a really nice way to introduce more of a pen&paper rpg style in a boxed form, which I thought it would and all the introduced fluff&lore seems really nice but they are in the end not doin anything with it. if you take it as a dungeon crawler with some nice fluff all around.. the game is good, but i can only imagine how much better it would be with a gamemaster and some more "D&D" like elements.. the scenario defenitely has the potential for an awesome world to explore. Maybe they´ll come up with an expansion into that realm.

Sooooooo... Gloomhaven is okay but unprecedented? So many of the macanics are a mashup of things taken form other games and about fifty percent come right out of Road to Legend from the original Decent.
