I told my girls about this speech after hearing it on the radio, I think they have listened to it more than once. I told them to tell their friends, i think it should be played to all graduates, what a powerful uplifting speech. It is all the more interesting since the Roe v. Ward was overturned, I wonder what Nora would be saying today. Watch it an watch it again in a year, five years whenever, it will mean something different the next time.

i am doing this speech for theater 101 and I really enjoyed the topic she talks about which is feminism. her points are ageless, almost 20 plus years later. i did not know of this woman while she was alive but she seemed like a beautiful soul.

Whatever you do, be the heroine of your life, not the victim. It's a great message!

It is great to see how much has changed in 17 years. Much like in the 30 years between Ms. Ephron's graduation and her speech, we have witnessed so much change for the better in this world. Thank God there is a record of this speech!

Nearly ten years after this commencement, Sony released Mona Lisa Smile in 2005, about a fictional art teacher at Wellesley in the Fifties. Nora recalls the social conditioning of the students in 1962 as just barely more advanced. I thought the film was very unfair to the College.

Amazing - the graduates are all around 50 - wonder what they think of her speech now. It's very far ahead of it's time. And look how long we have been subjected to Clarence Thomas. Lifetime Supreme Court appointments need to END.
