Hej Nora - do you know if that annoying guide-thing applies for bicycle-tourers as well?
@Nora_adventurism8 жыл бұрын
I know it does not, but you do have to get a permit before you enter.

I ve got a question Nora,why you must be escort at all the driving time through out Myanmar from the agency guys?
@Nora_adventurism8 жыл бұрын
Why, I don't know for sure. But when asked the guide said that it is for safety because if our bike brakes, we cannot talk to the people. The real reason is probably because the government doens't want travelers to go to places where the government has no control and rebel groups are still fighting.

are hotel and other expenses lower than India in Myanmar?
@Nora_adventurism8 жыл бұрын
+Wugar M-zadeh hotels.... hmm, maybe but since the travel agent arranged hotels we got put is these fancy hotels we would otherwise never choose ourselves. I don't know the exact prices off course but the local food we ate was very cheap.

For lay Buddhists going to to major temples of Myanmar or Thailand is like going to Rome for a Roman Catholic. After Gautama Siddhartha (the Buddha) died in 480 BCE Buddhism was *aniconic*, and there were NO statues of the Buddha anywhere. However, emperor Ashoka felt guilty about killing 200,000 people in the Mauryan wars and he converted to Buddhism about 263 AD. He gathered up the Buddha's ashes from the seven stupas where they had been buried and he begain building magnifiient temples so the lay people could make sacrifices near images of the Buddha.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greco-Buddhism Buddhism certainly got around. There is evidence of sramanas in the Indis River civilization 4000 years ago. And there were Buddhists practicing as far west as Cyrene (modern Libya) in the time of Jesus Christ. The Roman Catholic church mistakenly beatified two Buddhist monks about 400 AD.

The Buddhadharma is confusing and contradictory at first, then suddenly you *get it*, you understand what it's about and you are a calmer, more serene individual.

Folks, people of Myanmar historically has a sad saying that goes 'A poor young girl got raped and get hurt twice'. Google 'Long-Live Indochina/China Daily' for the plain truth.

What is the local language there? Don't they have police check-posts to avoid tourists going towards violent places? I think guides are just to make money and put extra burden on tourists.
