Looking down from heaven above, John Lennon does sure agree, speaking words of wisdom LET IT BE. Just wanted to add my little bit. But, I have no doubt he does. This performance captures the essence of the original. I wan't to say I'm surprised because it is ONE HELL of a song, but I have adored that musician for 22 years. Sasha Dobson is NOT Norah's sister. Although they've been close friends for... 22 years, more, so maybe they see each other as sisters. Jones real, half sister, Anoushka Shankar who's by all accounts a great sitar player [apparently takes after her dad] is clearly not involved here. [Not sure how they would have fit a sitar into this if she was] They have collaborated in the past and there's also a podcast featuring Anoushka from Jones playing along with podcast series.

I honestly don't think Norah would have even momentarily thought of her dad in that cover. She would obviously know that at some point he worked with the Beatles [in a way] but that's only a very small part of HIS journey as a musician, and she's honoured him before, already, by collaborating musically with her half sister. This cover was about the song first, the Beatles and paying tribute to them, as a LEGENDARY band, second. And... nothing else.

Norah's vocal in this is like bottled teardrops falling from the eyes of angels in heaven, especially at the star before the rest of the band really kick in. I don't know how it would translate compared to anyone who was there, but for me the vocal in that first minute or so damn near kills me it's THAT sweet. Never read a comment I've agreed with more. Just came to this after watching half of a video about some alleged busker yet also "supposedly" a musician, using auto tune in regard to some cover of another "alleged" musicians song [in this case, Avril Lavigne and that one song she did about not "faking" stuff] to remind myself and clear my ears of [that] dross. Always rely on Mr's Jones. Why I love her so. This is just one of far too many examples of how and why she's just absolutely freaking awesome. I'm fighting the urge to hit that repeat button for the hundreth time, if not more...

I think if Macca had been there [Paul McCartney] he would have doffed his cap. I don't think words alone can quite express what Norah's vocal ability is truly like. Just consider the range of emotions in her voice as she sings the words. Sing, isn't a fitting descriptor, really, she appropriates them and convey's the meaning of them maybe even better than Macca could do. The bluesy soulful vibe of the song comes out in her amazing vocal with every high note. This song was WRITTEN for someone as vocally gifted as Jones to perform it. I would love to get Macca's thoughts on this. My theory is he would absolutely love this... Add to it all that tasteful and mazy piano solo in the middle or thereabouts, and you got yourself probably the cover of all cover songs. I keep coming back to this and I should KNOW what Jones is like. I have most of her albums and been a fan for 22 years... but this floors me every time.
