This is Arthur. When I got a message from a friend today that this video had posted, I was so excited I could barely concentrate on my work. I waited until I got home to watch it on the TV, gathered the kids around and told them that Dad just reached "peak life moment" (except for their births) being on NorCal Cycling. Thanks Jeff and Brian!

Hi Jeff. Just wanna say a huge thank you! As a MTB'er, I did my first road race (on the MTB) over the weekend. Maybe you've heard of it, it's called the Cape Town Cycle Tour (previously, Cape Argus), arguably the biggest road race in the world. 109km of beautiful scenery.. Anyhow, I've been watching your videos and I manage to complete it in a time of 3h36min which I wouldn't have without your advice it would probably have been a 4h+ ride. Started at the very back and only 1 guy came past me. Managed to settle in with a group of roadies and we rotated beautifully until the end where there are 2 big climbs and I dropped all off them with my MTB gears. I've been looking at entry level roadbikes now and super keen to give our local crits a go. Unfortunately we don't have categories so the winners are usually the pro's on their practice rides, but maybe I can get a sneaky win and send you the footage. Keep up with the great videos!

3k to go as they turn into the head wind you can see a split that he missed by hanging out at the back. So many missed opportunities to move up got free by keeping soft pedalling rather than coasting with everyone else

When you talked about why they were on the left side right side ect, it is because of the dips and turns. The first dip after the start its the worst on the right side so everyone goes on the left side. It is very common to get air lol. On the last little snake turns they were taking the turns the way everybody does because of the water ect. This is a fun course. I raced against Logan last year. I am nothing to talk about lol

Is it better to be boxed in but in the shelter, or better to not be boxed in but take the crosswind? Probably situation dependent but a finer breakdown of when to use what strategy would be cool!

@NorCalCycling

Probably.. but another way of looking at it is he also could have won with a very mediocre Sprint because of how well he timed it and positioned himself that whole last lap. I'll bet he could have made like 300 fewer watts and still won.

What's the story behind the drainage ditches? Putting that kind of money into constructing a track, one would think they would have installed culverts.
@ssferrari98
@ssferrari98 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not a cycling dedicated track. Just a car path around some soccer fields. Those ditches get sketchy at speed. Broke some handlebars there last summer lol. The one right after the finish line is really bad when it gets hot and the concrete expands

It's not a question if Cat 4's can work as a team. The question is should they. No way. Just race and go for it. Racing as a team in Cat 4 takes the fun out of it and turns people off when you are still learning.

So did he play this perfectly? Or is your commentary about him drifting too far back valid regardless of the W?
@NorCalCycling
@NorCalCycling 2 жыл бұрын
he drifted too far back, and found an opening on the sheltered side of the rode. He got a little lucky that gap existed, especially on the last lap, it wouldn't exist in a p/1/2 race. His sprint timing and impromptu teamwork in the last 1/2 lap was fantastic.
@The123fiona

Surely "Know your opponent" is the most relevant point in relation to his positioning during the race. He knew what they, and he, could do when push came to shove.
