michael hines different circles. Most of the really good ones I know don’t get paid much at all. People think just because they’re so good that it doesn’t take time, indiv rehearsal, group rehearsal, equipment, and a ton of study. How much does the tech and equipment cost? Some do the same work and get paid a lot more, yet we do the same and get a lot less. That’s not greed at all. It is equity. 49 years in the church and nearly 35 as a church musician tells me that in addition to it being the Word of God that tells us to pay what we owe.

Glenn Gibson has always been a dynamic player since the days of playing for pastors and conventions. The down side is that, many of these musicians never get the credit (both financially and recognition) they deserve. Many are taken advantage of. I believe Product endorsement is now the new norm for many of these incredible musicians. Companies and product developers are willing to compensate those willing and good enough to both demonstrate and endorse their products. Absolutely true! Gospel musicians are always taken for granted and taken advantage of by churches which sucks because as a Christian I said I would never play for another church in my life. Half the time you don’t even get a thank you yet alone any compensation. The churches (especially the black churches) act like you’re obligated to give them your time and talent. I could tell you some stories.
