Quartz, Mineral, Generic design, Made in Asia, £164. Not as bad as mvmt etc at least the marketing isn't misleading but the price isn't close to being justifiable imo.
@magnetpull75875 жыл бұрын
well it is a bit high, but you can't compare it to the DW, MVMT ect fashion watches as this brand actually created their own design and does not just buy what the chinese manufacturer had lying around. This designing and manufacturing just for them lets the price explode. I mean everything on this watch except for strap and movement needs to be made just for them. Then look at the prices of comparable established fashion watch brands featureing their own designs such as Skagen or Bering and they are only a tad cheaper, which will be due to the higher nr of watcher manufactured. Yet the discussion if all quartz watches except for Timex and some Casios are overpriced is another one.
@BrianHartman3 жыл бұрын
@@magnetpull7587 The fact that they created their own design (although it's not that original, IMO) is why I'd probably pay as much as $75 for it. I think you'd have a hard time justifying much more than that, though. It's not crap. We're not talking MVMT or DW here. But it's nothing particularly special. You could get an automatic Invicta Pro Diver with a hackable, handwindable NH35 movement for less than they're trying to sell this watch for.

I'm an owner of the 40mm rose gold philosopher model. Started searching watches during covid and just started happening. This philosopher was one of the earlier brands I bought. Your presentation did not emphasise the unique design of the case. Its inwardly tapering sides and interesting bevel meeting the mineral crystal. Overall I like the appearance and Scandinavian it certainly is. If you like IKEA you'll probably like this watch. You can buy a package ie one watch two or three different straps nicely packaged. The nato is thin light but I still like it. The italian leather smells and looks beautiful. The matching gold mesh strap is rubbish cheap n nasty. Big negatives also are, customer support. I some how easily scratched my crystal in a kind of light deeper light line, 8 o'clock sector. I was taken aback how this unfortunately happened. All Nordgreen wanted was chapter and verse on the incident..they had no intention to take it back to refurbish replace the crystal. Luckily the case was unscathed. So like my choice of watch but beware of ineffective customer service. And they have a refurbish department, no idea what that means. You can buy a refurbished watch for 25% but.....cheers Ben

I like how they actually have a named designer rather than just bulk ordering a generic design from a catalogue for £2 each and marking it up. Not for me, but I can respect it a lot more than some of the other brands like MVMT and DW.

The design of that watch isn't bad. But $164 for a quartz watch with a mineral crystal is a bit much. You might convince me to buy it at $75.

@bmjames Жыл бұрын
I was almost tempted to buy a Nordgreen last year, but in close-up the finishing just wasn't on par with the price point. Not all brushed finishes are equal and I think theirs looks cheap. On the models with rounded lugs (like the Pioneer) you can see mould lines on the lugs. They look like sub-£100 watches to me. Now, I just saw that some variants of the Pioneer are currently heavily discounted to £96 (down from £239). That's a reasonable price for a quartz fashion watch which has a unique design. I'm also fairly sure they are still making a margin at that price - it isn't a discontinued product, they don't need to get rid of them. When I see a brand do this on their own storefront, it shows up how shamelessly overpriced their products are at RRP, and puts me off the brand in general. I wouldn't want to wear one in case people thought I had paid full price for it.
@presterjohn715 жыл бұрын
They have looked at the tat that DW is selling for big money and thought if DW can impress with a $2 dollar watch then they will clean up with a $15 watch. Clearly, the watch is nicer than the DW type tat but realistically it is a $60 watch with an extra $100 added to the price tag for "reasons".
@beatlememea5 жыл бұрын
I think it is a cool watch! It is nothing special but the design is imo much better, although there are just slight differences, (But hey it is a watch! What should we expect?!) than the designs of comparable watches.

@robbabcock_4 жыл бұрын
I think it has a clean, minimalist look that's pretty nice looking except that the date window looks microscopic. It would be a pretty competitive watch vs Timex if it was $50...but at $200 USD I'd say they should lay down the crack pipe and take a step back. Yeah, I get it- they're supporting social causes with some of that money. But a $200 watch that's barely splashproof with a $4 Miyota movement is a complete non-starter.
@sfsaviation2 жыл бұрын
For half that price I can get a decent automatic watch with a date complication. Absolute ripoff, if i want to donate to social causes and buy a watch I can do both on my own, no need to trust a middle man with my charity money.

Also, note that I have already done an exchange already, it took several weeks to return it back to Denmark and get another one. Tricky. The price is an outrage but, ignoring that for a second, I think classing this watch as uncool is probably a bit harsh. Equally, I don't think it merits a cool: it's stylish enough but in a fairly generic way - it doesn't really distinguish itself even with the extra effort that's gone into the case, dial, etc. Beyond that, the price further bars it from cool: for what it is, I'm just not seeing the value. So for me it's going to uncomfortably straddle the uncool and cool columns.

can we all agree that ‘scandinavian’ watches are synonymous with cheap low quality chinese imports ? why is this? please tell me i’m wrong.
@G1NZOU5 жыл бұрын
It's mostly because Scandinavia has a reputation for visual design and not heritage watch making, it costs a lot to set up true horological watchmaking and you don't really get a proper return unless you build up a heritage, which takes decades. So it's difficult to set up a new watch company outside of the known Horological countries without significant risk. Scandinavian design focuses on function and minimalist form, IKEA furniture is a good example of this, a good way to get a similar aesthetic but also get good horological heritage is to go for something like a Junghans, Bauhaus design which is very similar to Scandinavian design but good horology underneath.
