Nordhavn 63 has to be one of the best designed Yachts so far to me, compact and everything at hand for a couple sailing anywhere..

Boat videos present many opportunities for wrong turns but this videographer avoided all of them and got it very right. Lots of cohesive visual information in less than eight minutes and an unobtrusive, upbeat soundtrack. Thank you.

I love these yachts but cannot get enthusiastic about the one side deck idea. In Nothern Europe where we regularly navigate locks and moor alongside it is just not practical, especially with a small crew.

A perfect boat for long distance cruising, but an absolute no go for me is the missing big opening door to the aft cockpit.
@jaquigreenlees3 жыл бұрын
I would add the long empty ( wasted ) space of the fore deck. It makes her look stern heavy meaning turning into a large wave would be a bad option.
@allaboutyachting3 жыл бұрын
@@jaquigreenlees I didn't want to complain about the general design because it's a matter of taste. You put the tender there, or use the space as a sun pad. But you're right also in my eyes it's a strange design and there would be plenty of other things I could complain about. 🤷🏻♂️

You guys are crazy... This is a global cruiser not a Bayliner. Its all about luxury and getting away from the dock. Like let's go to Hawaii stuff.
@allaboutyachting3 жыл бұрын
@@thereissomecoolstuff Agreed 👍🏻 but even Northhaven has plenty other let's say nicer options. And they are not the only ship yard offering long distance cruisers. But I guess it found an owner, so it meets somebody's taste.
@thereissomecoolstuff3 жыл бұрын
@@allaboutyachting yes, I also enjoy Fleming's a great deal. As housing prices and property taxes continue to skyrocket more people will be moving on yachts. There are several manufacturers. It's going to be an exciting time in yacht design and building.

Okay, so why so many Nordhavns without steering/rudder control at the wing stations? If there is a hydraulic issue and you have no thrusters, it means you are forced to steer/dock/maneuver from pilot house...kind of the exact time you’d want to have the best visibility when going without thrusters...beyond me.

The boats are nice and all but why aren't they made in the USA where most of their customers are? I'm curious as to why Nordhavn never invested into its own north american shipyard with the continued success they have had over the years. Princess, Sunseeker, etc. seem to do fine in a high cost environment of the UK, they have nurtured and developed a highly skilled workforce with a sense of pride in their trades. Outsourcing the noble and ancient art of shipbuilding to China seems like taking the easy way out of complexity which is the whole point of any worthwhile enterprise. Without an actual, internal and local manufacturing part Nordhavn is more of a financial concern than a real shipbuilder. What legacy do its leaders want to leave? Having sold expensive goods for more than they cost to build in low-cost countries, which is par for the course in most US companies? Or having created a vertically integrated ship builder close to its customers with hundreds of skilled manual jobs where none existed before?

Well raised the issue, although... The keys to capitalism do not coincide with this. Capital is invested where each dollar yields the best return and, obviously, the U.S.A. does not seem to be that place for U.S. capital for more than seventy years. When RCA Victor Co. became Japan Victor Co. (JVC), it grew as a company. Had it remained invested in the U.S.A., it would have suffered the same fate as the dozens of large Detroit automakers. This happens in any society that considers itself "Capitalist". You are not going to see German, Russian, Swedish or Japanese companies with industrial plants in the U.S.A. that surpass the parent companies of those countries in terms of platform and personnel. The explanation has to do with the parameters of capitalism itself, which does not measure its actions and interests on a moral, nationalistic or social basis. .... In the same way that capitalism does not build public schools, public hospitals or public cemeteries, neither does it invest where it has no better profit.

Within Europe you would need to have at minimum an International certificate of competence for boats up to 24 metres and to have a VHF licence.

Not sure I trust something with a Scandinavian name that isnt built by Scandinavians, owned by a American company that has them built by the cheapest labor in Taiwan. When I hear "Made in Taiwan", I most certainly do not think of quality......The word cheap and unreliable come to mind. It may look great, that's the norm of Asian products, look great but only on the surface.

Look up the guy who just built a 68' who received it in pieces from Taiwan. It took months and months for it to be repaired. This design not as bad as some of their but most of their line is super too heavy and rolling puke buckets. Overrated
