Thank you; you know this lake so much better than I.

A little calm at the start, but the wind picked up nicely making it another great sail with the Cap'n!

While it was calm at the start, I was able to sail off the mooring & before long had a nice breeze that ended up as just great for a relaxing solo sail. Coming back, I had to paddle the last dozen or so strokes to get from where the breeze ended to the mooring ball, but after I had the Nordica all buttoned down & was rowing back to shore, I noticed that nearly the whole end of our lake had just gone glassy calm, so I had made it back just in time, otherwise I would have had to connect the MinnKota. Thanks for viewing.

What size minkota do you have for this model nordica 16?

I have a 1976 nordic 16 the previous owner drilled some holes in the hull to drain the rain water and snow accumulation!

Wonderful looking boal! I At 10:02 while you were hoved-to, it looked like the top of your rudder was at an angle. Was that the case? I would expect the rudder to be vertical? Thanks

Thanks for your observation Ray. Yesterday afternoon I went for a sail & hove to out in the middle of the lake & took a look at the rudder. It is at an angle for sure. There's one or two of my vids with shots of the Nordica 16 on the trailer & there you can see the hull shape. It's a shallow draft full keel & is a double-ender; it has a canoe stern. With that stern shape, the rudder is actually mounted in two places on the curve of the keel, so when the tiller is moved to either extreme, that curvature is reflected in an angle to the rudder that is not fully vertical. Since it was never intended to be a racing design, I don't find any limitations when using it & I've always been a fan of the "shippy" look to the double-enders. The other upsides are that it leaves very little wake behind & the stern doesn't get pushed around quite as much with a following sea.
