You are so right, I work at Ross and we get the stuff that doesn't sell at stores like Nordstrom Rack, Macy's Backstage, etc. We also get brand new stuff that fits in our price range. We also get overstock and discontinued items (which happens a lot, maybe they change one little thing). Sometimes we get factory rejects, like maybe the zipper is on backwards on a purse, or jeans where one leg is slightly longer than the other. I found a shirt the other day that had the tag sewn on the outside, nothing a quick snip and stitch couldn't fix, but they can't sell it at the flagship store. I think Ross is great for discontinued fragrances, a lot of customers are happy to find their favorite discontinued perfume at our store. Our food is all within it's date, but it might not have as long of a shelf life left as the stuff you buy at the grocery store. I don't know why anyone pays full price either, knowing how much this stuff is marked up.

Pretty sure all nordstrom racks get a truck 5 days a week.. also there shouldnt be any penny items on the shopping floor and if there are, that was someone not being ontop of their job.

Im currently a ADM at Nordstrom...Used to work for rack part time ..Our rack is right next shopping complex...Yesterday I got a 1100. Mcm backpack for 175..and Vince booties were 350 I paid 15...😳😳😳

+Gladys Lugo this very well could be true! I know that all rack items are either specifically purchased for the rack or come from the Nordstrom big store. Whereas the maxx comes from a variety of places so they might have some price variations...

I work at Ross, I used to work at Macy's. I see a bunch of Nordstrom stuff at our Ross, also brands I recognize from Macy's. It's marked down further than Nordstrom Rack and Macy's Backstage. Think of your main department store, each of them has a discount store under their name, that the stuff on clearance that doesn't sell quickly enough at the main store goes to. Then the stuff that doesn't sell at those stores gets marked down further and goes to Ross/TJMaxx/Marshalls/Burlington. Don't think it's all old stuff, some shipments at Macy's would get automatically backstocked, some stuff would get lost in our stockroom, customers do stash things very cleverly, or people return things still within the return window, but the main store has stopped carrying it, etc. Ross also has their own products that we get brand new that fall into our price range, whether it's clothing or housewares. All of our food is fresh, but some of it might be closer to the expiration date than it is at the grocery store. I've worked at grocery stores too, and dry goods can be in the stockroom for months sometimes, they arrive with a very long shelf life. At Ross, we have to put a shipment out within a day or two, the food always goes out first. I bought a bunch of Kind bars that were still good for a month, about 90% off and put them in my deep freezer. Good thing about clothes is they don't expire. I don't know why anyone would pay full price, knowing how much these things are marked up. I can say though when you buy any new clothes, wash them because they have probably been tried on by about 50 people, and have likely spent a lot of time on the stockroom floor. They put a lot of chemicals on them to keep them from wrinkling or looking dirty. You don't want those chemicals on your body either.

hi there! Just wondering if it's true that some companies make "cheaper" lower quality items just to sell at the rack? Like I heard some designer jeans - paige etc.

Personally, I do know that for example zella is sold at Nordstrom and it is a Nordstrom’s brand... they sell z by zella only at the rack. If you find zella at the rack it is a great quality but the z by zella ( only sold at the rack is not as great). So I don’t know for a fact but I could definitely see that BUT you can definitely find those higher end authentic qualities at the rack... I could go into a whole other thing with how your thoughts on this are relevant to the anniversary sale if you see where I am going with that thought....

This is common across retail to have private label brands set at different price points, but like Zella vs. Z by Zella, they will have altered the name a bit. Ralph Lauren and Polo by Ralph Lauren (the lower price brand) comes to mind for me, but both are made by the same company. It may help to read how private labeling works here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_label You may think of store brands mainly with groceries, but clothing companies do it too. They may even be made in the same factories as name brands.

Cotrell1003 20% even on clearance which is great considering you can use it on designer brands! Also 30% once a year during the month of December. 40% off Nordstrom brands usually once a quarter which Nordstrom brands are some of my favorites!

Managers get 33 percent 20 at rack ..Everyone on special shopping events 40 percent...Salespeople or regular employees get 20 ..

Ruby Seligman this is such a great question! I honestly don’t know and I don’t want to give you the wrong information. I know employees use to hunt for penny buys and then get friends to come in and buy them because we weren’t aloud too....WOW this question gave me all the feels sorry I don’t have a better answer for you!

If you find them before it gets marked down you can buy it but when it gets marked a penny we send it out.

@@trinimancia8116 thats right, when the employee scan the item and if anything that below .99c they need to go in the back, there was one time I have to clear the counter 😂😂😂, those will eventually go to the Rack.

Stores are supposed to destroy those because they are a health hazard and a liability issue. I'm sure individuals sell them on Ebay and Poshmark though. The issue is you don't know if the product has been tampered with or if it's even the product that it says it is on the label. For example, when I was a new employee at Macy's, I took a return of foundation, but in the bottle was some oily lotion that the customer had pumped in there to make the bottle feel full. There's also been instances where perfume bottles are refilled and returned with rubbing alcohol, cleaning products, or other mystery fluids, again, just to make the bottle appear full. It is a way people steal. We're supposed to destroy cosmetics returns for this reason.

Danielle LaBarbera I agree! I was able to wear my Revas in quickly (from working retail). I would have never bought them for $225.... However, I did buy the travelers at full price and I do not regret it!
