​@@ArcticPhilharmonic Abolsutely! I really like the funky chords too during the verses and the orchestra joining the last chorus! Also, Espen is a remarkable choice for that role. His presence seems to fill the whole stage during the long shots. Especially, with his jumpy movements druing the choruses :)

Very nice use of the violons from 5:29 to the end! With a bigger chorus, it would be a masterpiece, but I think we're already not far from this IMHO! 👌

It better be since Anders Eljas (the conductor) was also the conductor in the Murray Head version. He and Benny were the arrangers in the original.

Nice, know this Song since the time it was released, at the middle of the 80ies but never watched IT in this original Version. The abba men made some more Musicals as well but none became famous like this one though

You are right! Mr. Andersson wrote “Kristina från Duvemåla” which is quite a beautiful piece, but didn’t get as famous as Chess.

@@ArcticPhilharmonicit is *even* better than Chess though. Kristina has to be one of the greatest musicals ever. And Björn Ulvaeus‘ original Swedish lyrics are phenomenal too. Sadly, the English translation that has been performed a few times is rather poor lyrically.

This was not a cover. This was an opening of tge official Chess world tour with Norweigian cast in took place Norway not long ago.

@@paulwan7258 I think they are referring to the original singer of this - Murray Head. Any other version than Murray’s is a cover and his will always be the ultimate. It was released as a single and did well in the charts - promotional video here m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpuck2mOo86nh7c He sang the part of Tommy on the original cast tour in 1984 but no video of this song is on KZbin (there are others of him playing this part with other songs from Chess).

Way fuckin better than Adam Pascal. Espen is as close to the real soul of the Chess than any other current singer I've heard. Also Philharmonia is awesome. Where many failed, you kicked ass.

@@ArcticPhilharmonic Not only liked. I've heard so many versions. This is basically only one that nails it. Many other orchestras simply failed in rhytm or made other mistakes. You are so damn perfect in timing and intonation it's just not possible. This is how the official version should be.

The song has a little laid back feel but it's supposed to be pulsating like the city. A little less legato and ritardando would suit it. But the singer did a surprisingly good job.

Let’s blame that on the conductor, Anders Eljas? Although one WOULD expect him to know how this music should be performed, as he worked closely with Benny Anderson writing the orchestral score for “Chess” :-) Thanks for watching and commenting!

Agree, and this is actually the backing singers tune, with the lead only meant to do the spoken parts. So the overall performance rests heavily on the chorus. They should've hired Anders Glenmark again! :)

This orchestra is superb but such a disappointment with the singers performance. If he had stood still longer he might have found the vocal power and phrasing to perform this excellent song as it should be done.

Great orchestra... needs a different singer... one who isnt majorly overacting to the point where its unbearable... and maybe one who can sing.
