I saw a Caterpillar Hi-Wide train the day before this one. I would like to know the reason for this odd type of consist. It looks like one of the bulldozers is going to Murmansk, Russia.

It is FRED. NS uses air generators on theirs.

Please enlighten me. Wouldn’t a constant drawdown of the air try to apply the brakes? It would be like a mini-emergency air release at all times.
