What a fabulous video. Did we ever appreciate how much work goes into the painting/prepping of a locomotive? I do now. Thanks Norfolk Southern for caring enough to show us. The message about rail freight being good for America is just as true now as 150 years ago.

When I built my model railroad for the grandbabies to watch around the Christmas tree, I went with an SD60 in NS livery. I had some thoughts that maybe I should have gotten a GE Tier 4, but man I'm glad I chose this model. Later when my layout gets bigger, I'm gonna add locos like this one.

If I was the President, "I would make America great again" and start by giving railroads massive tax breaks and incentives to industries to ship by rail. When America was great, as I recall, the railroads played a major role in the economy, more so than now. We nee to get back to those days again. More trains, more industry, more manufacturing- and all of it linked by railroads.... but I'll never be the President. Oh well.

Really nice work. It is to bad NS won`t exert that same effort in re-opening the Cincinnati District also known as the Peavine. The fuel and time savings realized by using this route versus taking the long way to Cincinnati from Portsmouth through Columbus and Dayton is truly very inefficient. It is high time that NS gets this line back up and running instead of just letting it sit and waste away.

How do railroads, such as NS and even historical groups, repaint locomotives in defunct railroad color schemes perfectly replicating logos, etc. NS recently painted a 42 year old SD45 in EL colors exactly as it was when new complete with EL logo and "Radio" lightning bolts. Amazing. That's not to mention their heritage feet. How do they do that?

How did a bogey with two axles in the workshop change to a bogey with 3 axles out of the workshop??
@silicon2127 жыл бұрын
Here in the US, we refer to those as 'trucks'. The locomotive, while in the paint booth, was on shop trucks (basically standard railcar trucks), for whatever reason (maybe the locomotive trucks were being rebuilt). They are unpowered and allow the locomotive to be moved from area to area. The 3-axle trucks are the standard locomotive trucks on these EMD SD60 series locomotives.

I will never figure out why they, the different railroads, always leave the wheels and couplers that rusty color. They could at least paint them black also and then it would look complete.
@bradcliff70994 жыл бұрын
I was a railcar mechanic awhile back and I believe the reason is for inspections of the wheels . One thing most don't realise is that thereb really isn't a wash bay to pull into and clean cars and locomotives like a car or truck! If you think about it, the wheels being made obv. of steel and rolling on steel rails, over time they will get a thin layer of a rusty hue along the bottoms of the locomotive and all cars. which is nothing more than the result of friction between the wheels and rails.
