I don't know what I love more; your camera work, or the fact that she wasn't running around with a diesel helper.

diesel helper LOL..... i think you got that backwards, more like the steamer is helping the diesel LOL

That's some great footage. Also, I just noticed something. That shot at 7:16 at Friendship Road. N&W 1218 passed that same location back in 1987, in a documentary on the 1218's return to steam. The camera shots are almost identical, and just looks plain awesome. I especially love the mountains in the background.

6:11 Nothing sounds better than a hard-working steam locomotive. The sharp cracking exhaust chuffs reverberate like gunshots throughout the surrounding hills... it is truly an experience one can never forget.

Wow, marching up that hill at Villamont with no diesel helper, an auxiliary water tender and a passenger train so long the video editor fades it out before all those Tuscan-red cars are even past? Just another day's work for the 611. Class act indeed. (And the late O. Winston Link would have loved seeing this.)

What a wonderful and very well done video 611 is one of the best streamlined steam locomotives ever. Some of the shots you got of her in the video was amazing. And it is a shame that there are no fall excursions for her.

Some beautiful shots in this video. Which got me thinking, steam locomotives are such crude and simple machines when you think about it, yet they have such a strong emotional and spiritual hold over us don't they... still cant believe what Im seeing here :-) Really thankful for your work dude...

Great video Eric! I love your shot of that fantastic ESSO Station/General Store with the vintage pumps. It's worth the trip from NJ just to do a photo shoot of it. Thank You for sharing! That is a really heavy passenger train. I think the J Class Develops 6,000 HP.. Is that true? Blue ridge country is really beautiful.

I can,t see spending all that money just to Radford va instead of Bluefield what a trip threw some of the finest scienry in the east and the chaising is very good from state line to bluefield I know I did I with the `1218 Oct 91. I would love to see a trip Bluefield tto Williamson WV pasing soon 60 years the 611 took a curve to fast, turned over killing the engineer there was no speed recorder

Was the smoke put on for effect, or just an inexperienced fireman? That's a coal burner, isn't it.
@lewismohr19 жыл бұрын
AndreiTupolev smoke always for the camera. when everything is operating correctly the smoke stack is running clean like from 3:55 to 4:10. Back during WW2 the FRA required the railroads to hire in-house and contract photographer spies to catch firemen wasting fuel. smoke is always bad and indicates a waste of fuel. And after the war these photographers sold a lot of photos to the railroad magazines. C W Whitbeck was such a photo spy. You will see his credit on many photos of engines from the old Illinois Central and many other photos of engines of railroads that operated in the central United States. After the war, if the crew knew he was set up for a photo shoot or if they saw him set up, they always gave him a lot of smoke for the photo.
