Got me one with the polymer frame for 600 a couple days ago. Shot it yesterday. Three jams but the other 17 shots were smooth and clean, the frame was definitely not made perfectly, as there are a couple gaps between it and the metal parts. Metal parts aren’t snug and move a tad bit at times but it’s damn good nonetheless. The iron sights are perfect to me, the sight alignment with the stock as I’m sighting in is literally spot on perfect for me. For over 300 bucks cheaper than the cheapest AK at that shop, I believe this is a far superior product to purchase. Unless you’re getting a high end AK with a lot of custom parts and attachments, get the SKS instead of a cheap AK.

Aw yeah the mighty sks. Things are built like tanks. If I didn't know better I would think that ruger built them. Little on the heavy side but if I was in the wilderness I would grab my sks. Wouldn't be my 1st choice for war but it'll work. They been known to slam fire but that's because of the fire pin was dirty. Keep clean every 500 rnds and shouldn't have any issues

Agreed!! They are battle tested and tough as hand forged nails. Like you said, wouldn’t be my first choice but I have no doubt that it would work under pressure and when it counted. That’s why it would always be on standby mode. 😂👍🏻🇺🇸

I wouldn't choose the SKS over the AK for defense reasons but I actually would sell my AK before I sell my SKS with all it's scratches dents and dings along with it's 10 round capacity it's just that 1 weird uncle everyone loves but hates at the same time who's also the life of the party 😂😂😂

So this is a floating firing pin which means that if the firing channel gets dirty and stops the movement of the firing pin, it can automatically fire a round after loading and it would dump the whole mag. This has nothing to do with either brass or steel cased ammo…. It has to do with not cleaning the cosmoline out of the firing pin channel before firing. Make sure that firing pin rattles back and forth easily. Every floating firing pin puts a little detent in the primer when it loads… including an AR. That doesn’t mean it will slam fire. The primers in steel case and brass case are the same. Now if you’re talking corrosive ammo then those primers are harder and you might get some light strikes but I doubt it.

I know that we purchased 2 of these back in the late 80’s and I have a few SKS rifles with the original wood stock. I do like this stock on this rifle and I’m getting ready to do a follow-up video on this rifle because when I did this video, I forgot my 30 round mag. If you ever put a plastic stock like this on an sks instead of using the original wooden stock, make sure to not lose the original. There's much less collector value with aftermarket plastic stocks.

@brandon… Absolutely Sir. I agree. I own many SKS rifles and i have all of the original hardware and furniture on 90% of those rifles. But, because there were so many surplus SKS rifles that were sold in the U.S. with horrible or damaged stocks, that literally sold for Pennie’s on the dollar back in the 90’s, these stocks made a huge difference in the functionality of the rifles which were basically unsafe or unusable due to those original stocks. I purchased a few with the damaged stocks and replaced the stocks with Choate folding stocks. That turned an otherwise unusable rifle back into a safe rifle that could be enjoyed by future generations. Of course, I held onto those original stocks and they remain in their original condition (as they were sold at the time). I do enjoy shooting and collecting these old war horses and it’s nice to still get them out on the range from time to time. Thank you for watching and for sharing your feedback. The biggest cause of slam fire on the SKS is excess cosmoline in the bolt. When you shake the bolt, the firing pin needs to move freely. Many SKS rifles are very difficult to remove the firing pin retainer (mine included). The easiest way to remove the cosmoline is to hold the bolt upright/vertical and spray WD-40 into the hole while agitating the firing pin. It frees up quickly and you will see the residue leaking out from the bottom. It will go from brown to clear in color. Shake the bolt and it will move freely. Wipe off the excess and reassemble the rifle. Problem solved. 🎉 MAGA 🥳

I have a few that are untouched (all natural) as they came into the states and I have a few that are converted with tactical stocks, etc.. I do enjoy the beauty of the wood on these older type 56 platforms but I have a lot of fun with the synthetic ones as well. Yes Sir. You are correct. I have the original stock for the rifle. My gunsmith swapped it out to this folding polymer stock probably 25 years ago now. If my memory serves me correctly.
