Norio Matsumoto【松本憲生】Sakuga MAD

So this is more than double the length of any other MAD I've made, but I was committed to using the whole song, so here we are. If it's not obvious, I happened to watch Kingsman for the first time during my break, and anyone who has seen it knows exactly how that's related. Seeing how that 5 minute guitar solo worked with that action scene, I immediately wanted to use it for something.
Free Bird is very much a song of 2 halves, with one being relatively chill and the other being a non-stop ballistic guitar solo. I figured Norio Matsumoto's career reflected this pretty well, considering his tendency to do subdued character acting scenes next to some of the most iconic and influential action sequences ever drawn.
Matsumoto's work on episodes such as Naruto episode 30 and 133 inspired an entire generation of animators, some of which have become anime industry legends themselves.

Thank you so much for making this! I've watched this up to a dozen times and I don't know the artist or most of the shows. Every time I watch this video I feel this deep sense of loneliness, sadness and longing. Something I rarely feel (because I rarely feel at all), and yet somehow I'm moved in that way every time I watch it. Words are inadequate to express what this means to me. Incredible work on your part and of course kudos to Mr Matsumoto and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Norio Matsumoto is my favorite animator of all time, right next to Yoh Yoshinari. Watching Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 made me think about some of the best fights in Naruto that Matsumoto did and of course the insanely cool Birdy the Mighty season 2 final fight. I don't think you get JJK season 2 without a guy like Matsumoto paving the way. Also, Freebird in an AMV is wild, but I love it 👍

Matsumoto did the action storyboard for the s2 finale and it's easily one of my favorite episodes in anime.

Honest question: How can someone possibly be sure that those shots were all animated by mr. Matsumoto?

A combination of direct confirmations from people who worked on the same projects and him being credited on a particular episode or movie and recognizing his style. You can check Sakugabooru to see which animator did a particular scene for something. They are very thorough on the site, if a name is listed it was either directly confirmed (publicly or privately) or so unmistakably them you couldn't say it was someone else. And if they aren't sure it will be tagged with (presumed).
