mightisright - Norm lays down a false pre-interview & never goes to that expected talk during interviews. He said he doesn’t like the host to know what’s coming in advance. Letterman & Conan figures this out waaay back & now they just skip the preinterview. I don’t think Kimmel was as wise to it at this point.

@@PyroNexus22 Norm's arguing that it's better to be able to binge watch a show without the cliffhangers and waiting a week for the next episode. Jimmy says it's fun since you can discuss what happened with friends. Norm's book club answer refers to the fact that a book club is where you're able to discuss something that everyone read in their own spare time. His point is that he doesn't care for talking about what's going on with the show, he just wants to see the whole thing. Which is consistent with his point about not wanting to have to think about or guess what the ending is.

3ternal dunno, he had two specials out when you commented, one of which wasn't terribly old and is one of the best hours of stand-up ever, and had a third special released a few months after your comment. he could do ten more probably and still wouldn't get the recognition he deserves. norm would disagree, but he does do smart comedy. not in the sense that he provides intelligent social commentary, but that much of it is subtle enough to sail right over dumb people's heads. it's a totally douchey thing to say, but it's true. have you ever tried telling a subtle joke like the 'this guy was a real jerk' joke to dumb people?

This is why we love Norm. He's the smartest guy in the room, but he juxtaposes this fact with his shtick where he's the dumbest guy in the room, or, more accurately, that he's not necessarily dumb but that he's the most naive guy in the room. The effect is hysterically funny, and he deserves all the accolades he's received because of his genius. I mean, who else but Norm could drop a Nora Ephron reference but yet juxtapose this with being a naïf, and get such laughs?

I think we have all seen pretty much every interview Norm has done at least a couple of times. This one is in my top 5 for sure I think. Hadn't seen it in a while and I forgot how good it was. Although I feel like I say that after every Norm video I watch.

"Because ...you can't see everything ... it's hard enough to see anything!" These little overlooked pearls are the essence of this comic genius, he is so incredibly entertaining and funny and then you realize that the audience (yourself included) didn't even get caught perhaps half of the jokes, hidden meanings and wordplays.

Nah, Norm likes to fuck with late night show hosts. You can hear Conan talk about it a lot, when people ask him about Norm, as well as Norm talking about it himself. And of course you can watch Letterman and his hysterical laughter when Norm pulls a 180 at his setups.

True But it's also because Norm respected Conan, so he didn't (or couldn't) ever steamroll him like this
@CircuitRider
@CircuitRider 2 жыл бұрын
@@leadnitrate2194 yeah that’s exactly it. It’s actually fascinating how well Norm would change his material and general approach depending on what show he was on (Letterman, Leno, Conan, etc). He only tends to go for the “steamroll” approach for the guys he doesn’t revere much at all, or sometimes on Leno just because Leno’s so laid-back and hands-off anyway that it works.
