He was saying that as a reflection on of the cynical, cash-grab nature of Hollywood and big-business. Which is why he said "like my mother and father," he was clearly guided throughout his book writing by an editor and advised to cut out parts that were focused on his family and personal friends who the editor probably thought an audience wouldn't care to read about, hence why he makes that comment, which is really dumb on the part of the editor since family life and close friendships are some of the more interesting parts about people's lives, since it gives you insight into who they really are.

Norm was a man who's positive energy was so strong it changed the room upon entering. One of those people that's smile was infectious and you could not help but join him as soon as you saw it. On the flip side of the coin, his anger could be just as well perceived and change the entire atmosphere around him, even when he is biting his tongue and trying to keep his temper under control. I think it stings a little more seeing it get to that point too because you know how much patience he has to begin with. To see him get to this point would definitely be a tense moment, you'd almost wonder if he was about to actually snap and have am old Irish freak out. Man was a legend. I’m also Irish and my family moved to Canada before eventually coming down to America so I have roots in both countries. I also found a lot of myself and my family in his comedy and he was the only “celebrity” type figure where I found myself genuinely upset over his death. I first came across Norm in the early 90’s from his small movie rolls like Billy Madison and then I saw him on Letterman/SNL and became a huge fan. I remember going to see Dirty Work in the theater and taping that early Family Guy episode where he played “Death” on VHS… Then after his sitcom got cancelled, I totally lost track of Norm for 10+ years until I saw some clips from his cable sports show before he started the podcast. I was expecting to not find him as funny because I was only a teenager when I first became a fan and a lot of the stuff you find funny when you’re young doesn’t hold up as well when you get older… but to my surprise he was even funnier and more skilled in his stand-up acts. Because he was a guy I loved as a kid and then rediscovered as an adult and ended up loving even more, it felt like losing someone I knew for a really long time who was a huge source of positive energy. Whenever you are in a bad place, you can throw on any of his material and get a genuine kick out of it and forget about your problems. He was a genuine legend.

What other kind of cheese would a loose cannon like Norm, the man fired from SNL for his edgy jokes, prefer over cheddar?
@randyj4202 жыл бұрын
Quality funny while multi-tasking. Best book signer - ever. Not sure that's very easy tbh. This is a good and interesting clip - thanks for posting! Long live NORM on the internets ;) - he names a "ghost writer" lol - brilliant. - "Hey hey - easy with that - that's my lucky stabbin' hat" was absolutely 1 of his best best OJ digs - and a classic Norm-style joke. I love that he had that in his memory and calls it up on command. Cheers to 1 of the funniest of all time and those that post his audio and video for us to cherish, over and over, for generations to come. Big up.

What Norm is doing is more subtle than what most people will perceive. That is the brilliance of Norm. From reading the comments people are missing it--surely the man in the video is--but I'll briefly say this: Norm said in a previous interview, in response to a question, that power is one of his greatest dislikes: both the power people have over him and any power he has over someone else. That is why he is behaving the way he is--he is subverting power. He is protesting in his own brilliant way.

The guy in the suit seems annoying. He's like a pre-school teacher trying to urge a kid to say the right things. A puppet master who has partial control over his marionette. A condescending tool. But, this is just from one video. I am sure he is nice and just trying to do his job.
