I certainly remember watching this when it was on PBS. What I did NOT recall was that I was there! I was recently cleaning my home office, and hidden in a cubby was the actual program. I’ve obviously got early senility - how could I forget an event like this - but then I remembered going to work the day after this concert, and a couple of coworkers were going on about “why should my tax dollars go to the opera to make Dave happy.” Whatever. I had already seen the three stars - separately - many times before. So when Dame Joan gave her trademark back-on-the-leg shuffle, we knew that a colossal high note was imminent!

I have been hearing this high D since 40 years and he always makes me trembling of excitement. This historical top D is a "member" of the historical notes in the history of opera, as the E flat of Callas in Mexico's Aïdas , or the longest B and C by Pavarotti in Nessun Dorma and Il trovatore, or the gigantic B by Caballé in the finale of Don Carlo...

She totally did… I once heard also from singers talking about Radvanovsky that if you’re close enough you can feel like your ear drums are about to burst coz of how big that voice is.

I believe it. I heard Sondra a couple years ago in a small concert venue in Vancouver, only 300 seats or so, and when she hit a high D or Eb (can't remember which) at the end of a Devereaux aria, it was so huge it was almost physically uncomfortable. Left my ears ringing. I loved every second of it :)

Arborrectum: What do you mean? It was glorious. There should be anger and coldness between the two women and the man considering the situation. And La Stupenda’s high note is a musical expression or anger. Would you be negatively commenting if Callas were singing it? Forget it, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Can’t see/hear the forest for the arbor!!
