When I was a kid in the 1960s, my father had a Columbia LP of her recordings before she had hits. I loved all those songs, but never heard her hits until I was an adult. My personal favorite country singer from that period.

❤❤❤Norma Jean❤❤❤ One of the best country singers we will ever see. I found out about her when I was 12 and am now 14. A shame she didn't have a bigger career. I wonder where she is nowadays.

I was about 14 when she hit the scene. I fell in love with her the first time I heard her sing on the Porter Wagnor show. I sure did miss her when she stopped making more records. She was a super star that just left the fame that was hers' for the taking. She was and still is the queen of country music.

I heard her voice crack slightly at the beginning of a phrase, but no giggle. (?????????)
@paulh-19507 жыл бұрын
They left the crack in her voice on the word 'time' in - I think it made it even better. Norma was a really sexy lady.
@miltonmoore52947 жыл бұрын
I don't think a vocalist's voice cracking ever sounds good. Slim Whitman's and Wanda Jackson's notorious voice- crackings drive me right up the freaking wall!😲 But thankfully, like with Norma Jean, they didn't occur very often.

I know what you mean. Dolly is an exhibition figure who plays comedic supporting roles. Norma Jean could play serious roles as a lead character even if that movie was an x-rated movie.

This was banned by many country music stations for being ":risque". Considering the year, it's amazing that it wasn't banned by MORE.
@greenwolfegreen60289 жыл бұрын
I don't know why Norma Jean was replaced by Dolly on the Porter Wagoner Show, but I was delighted when Dolly left Porter, I figure that turn about is fair play. Norma would never have left Porter like that. Hehehehe!! I love Norma Jean. Somebody put her in the Hall Of Fame. She was that good.
@paulh-19507 жыл бұрын
Well they were an item and he wouldn't divorce and marry her so she left the show! Dolly just got the job - simple as that. It's all in the book Satisfied Mind.

By the way I much preferred Norma's voice to Dolly's.
@crackerjacks467 жыл бұрын
Norma Jean left because she got married and moved to Oklahoma.
@paulh-19507 жыл бұрын
No, that was later - she left because Porter would not divorce Ruth whilst his parents were still alive. He did give Norma an engagement ring and there is a funny story there - but buy the book - it's all in there!
