Been a .270 shooter since I bough my first serious rifle in 1963, a Sako. Now 75, I still have a .270 as my main hunting rifle, a 1970 Carl Gustaf. Never used that ammo but will try a box. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from down in Aussie.

Weatherby Vanguards are made by Howa, the Howa 1500 is a fine gun which can be purchased at a lower price point. All I have owned are great shooters straight out of the box.

Most of today's rifles will out shoot us shooters. The glass however, out past 400 to 600 yrds, (shooting for accuracy especially) tracking, clarity and actually progressing through adjustments at or very very close to specific increments, (MOA or MIL) has a huge impact on accuracy. I underestimated the importance of being as close to level as possible a few times. I now use a Wheeler Scope Level. Well worth the cost. A good scope and good loads or manufactured ammo will get you out farther than you think. Still the shooter must do his part. Wind is the hardest obstacle for me. I may try an anemometer. 💸 Money is my biggest obstacle. Poor boy playing a money man's game I suppose.💸😂😛

i do the opposite than you always site for a cold bore wild game never gives you 3 warmup shots take 1 shot adjust scope accordingly wait 10 minutes and shoot again ect

Same, I don't get in a hurry. I'll shoot one round and give it a couple minutes to cool and then shoot again. I always sight in a cold bore. One shot one kill hopefully if I do my part..

Same stuff I shot 45 years ago, just new packaging. My old Winchester M-70 XTR with a plain Leupold M-8 4x shot just about as well. As long as you have a half-decent trigger, most any rifle is going to shoot well. Norma is good ammo. As for the Weatherby Vanguard, glad you like it, I had one so chambered that I bought in '72. Shot just one head of the game with it, a Moose up in Newfoundland. 270 and some 160 gr Nosler Partitions that I loaded myself.

Norma makes great ammo, i have a Savage Axis XP in 270 and after a MCarbo trigger spring and shim installation it shoots three shot groups that touch at 100 yds. I still plan to bed the stock to stiffen it but love this rifle and it absolutely loves the Norma ammo.

Love that Vanguard. I have an old Browning A Bolt Medallion that looks very similar in 30/06. Love the walnut and blued rifles. If the the Remington does it right I may get a new 700 BDL on .270

Weatherby... Good rifle.. I pretty sure that savage 110 I used was 1 in low at 25 yrd. About 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 in high at 100 yrs. It was good to 360. It was accurate. A 275.00 Walmart Rifle. I remember the first time ever shot it. Awesome cartridge. And then discovered O'Connor ... Good vid. Smooth action. That barrel looks what 24 in or more. ??

I have an FN 1952 in 270 Win that groups its shots very similarly; two or more are cutting each other, and one to the outside. I have picked up some of this Norma 270 130gr SP ammo, but haven't had a chance to test it yet. I have also bought the Norma ammo in 243 and 30-06 this year; I've found it to be one of the best ammo deals for high power rifles over the last year or so. BTW, that is a beautiful Vanguard. I made the mistake of not buying its S&W 1500 cousin from the used rack at my local gun store last year. All the metal parts were in great shape, the wood stock was pretty scratched up, and would have made a great candidate for an oil finiish on the stock. They had it priced at $299, so I'm still kicking myself a little.

My Remington Model 700 really loves the Remington Core Loct ammo. I had some moly coats, 130 gainers which I forgot what brand, hornady I Think? that it loved even more..up here in Alaska I got a seal with that load at about 1200 yards. Seals don't move much except to pop their heads up to look for enemies. That's when I popped em, cause I couldn't tell what side the head was til it done that even with a 6×9×24 Tasco scope. Head shot put em down one shot. I love the model 700. I also got a caribou at 800 yards. Lots of fun and it puts food on the table. We render the blubber of spotted seal to use as a dip, and of course eat the meat too, and turn the hides into mukluks, or boots as most folks call em. Caribou are also eaten, the hides saved for camp mattress the sinews at the hooves the knee used for sewing threads, and of course the meat is delicious. 😋

Yeah, I picked up a couple boxes each of that Norma Whitetail in 7mm-08 and 270. Also grabbed one box of 6.5 but it was a little more expensive. The 270 and 7mm-08 were 17.99 or 18.99 per box. Crazy good prices. It's almost like you are paying for the brass and getting everything else for free!

I have this ammo and it has a very hard time when I load a round into my gun and the gun I have is a Thompson center compass 270. And when I chamber a round I have to really jerk the bolt and slam it to actually chamber the round into my gun

I was taken out to dinner tonight so I missed this live. I love that rifle! I always wonder why folks get so concerned about warming the barrel on a hunting rifle. When you see a deer, you take a shot with a cold barrel. If you miss, the deer runs away and you almost never get the warm barrel shot. If you take him down, by the time you finish dealing with the deer, the barrel is cold again. So when would you actually get that coveted warm barrel shot?

I have a 270 but I am getting older and my 270 hurts my shoulder when I shoot it. So I am thinking of going with 243, that said I have been hearing great things about 6mm ARC. Please every one tell me of the two which would you recommend. Thanks for helping this old lady out.

Go with the 243 Winchester. The ballistic performance is about the same, and 243 ammo is more readily available (and usually less expensive).

Hint: you have the scope mounted too high above the line of the bore. Inch and a half from center of scope to center of bore! Depending on the optic, it might end up +/-. Just a suggestion, 60 years of experience!

If you know the bullet's velocity and trajectory, the offset doesn't really matter. Just adjust accordingly for the relevant distance.
