Awesome reaction, mate!!! More from Opeth would ofc be their magnum opus, "Blackwater Park", while "The Drapery Falls" and "Moon Above, Sun Below" are must listens as well. Mikael is good friends with Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree (Steven has produced a bunch of the Opeth classics). The Live version of the almost 18 mins long "Anesthetize" from Tilburg, Holland, clearly demonstrates how insanely talented PT are as musicians and is a first reaction favorite on YT, which should gain more followers to your channel! It has impeccable studio sound, though being Live, as well. So, Hot tip! ;-) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZjamKd7h6iJf5Y A personal favorite of mine is Cult of Luna, which is another swedish metal act with progressive movements. Just as Opeth they are considered the pinnacle of their genre (post metal) with slow moving build ups to sometimes complete chaos, yet being very dynamic and crushingly heavy in the soundscape. My recommendation for a first introduction to Cult of Luna would be from the Mariner album project they did with Julie Christmas (Made out of Babies, Battle of Mice, etc) and the song "Cygnus". The last 5 mins of this song gets me every time, just masterful! Here's a link to a nice lyric video of Cygnus that a fan made a few years back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4DPd5aNjamfbJo (You can find a live version of Cygnus, if you prefer that, as the last song of the full "Live at De Kreun" concert here (starts just after 42.00 mins).) kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmeVfJ6Bi9Olp8k Thanks!

@@NormalGuyReacts Happy to help! If you want to grow your channel quickly, you might need to react to other stuff than metal. If you are up for that there's a bunch of bands that play accessible music at virtuoso level which is hard to "deny" even if it's not your prefferred choice of tea, so to speak. Me being from Sweden myself, I daily check for new reactions to the Stockholm based trio Dirty Loops. They effortlessly mix pop, rock, funk, jazz, gospel and rnb into something awesome with every song. There's a big fan base on YT for Dirty Loops, so an upload with proper tags should instantly give you +1000 views. With Dirty Loops I would start you off with the song "Work Shit Out" which includes some impressive keyboard and drum solos at the end. Other than that "Next to you" and "Follow the Light" are must reations as well. Link for "Work Shit Out" below: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJCqhZqmmdR2npI Snarky Puppy from Austin, Texas, is a large music collective in the "funky jazz fusion genre" that often write, arrange and record their music at location with a live audience. All done in just a few days under the command of their bass player and lead composer Michael League. Their song "Lingus" is an obvious first reaction having the perhaps best improvised key solo ever (not kidding here!) by Cory Henry. This is a no brainer to get some attention to your channel! This video currently has +32m views on YT, which is a mad figure for a DIY band. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpC7e5Kpaq6mh8U Other artists to check out would be Jacob Collier, Vulfpeck and Polyphia. I can add some links if you want to. On a professional note, please hide your exercise bike! I already know Im out of shape. You got a nice vinyl collection back there, show more of that instead. ;-) All the best, -Lars

Great to see another one getting into the Opeth rabbit hole! :) Even though I love them live, imho you should check all their songs in the studio version first before you watch them live, because the production on the album is so awesome and they've added a lot of extra layers/instruments and stuff in the studio versions, which add a lot to the atmosphere of the songs. Anyway I'm keen to follow you on your Opeth journey :)

@@NormalGuyReacts Cool can't wait for the next videos! 🙂 I think you'd especially enjoy "Harlequin Forest" more in the studio version, because there are some drum fills from the former drummer "Martin Lopez", which the other former drummer "Martin Axenrot" (Who you saw playing in this video) didn't play live. 😁

You should check out a performance from their shepherd’s bush empire live album. It was about 14 years before this show and the vocalist (mikael) was at his peak with growls, his voice is actually really worn down here. Would recommend the song “master’s apprentices” from that show.

@@NormalGuyReacts I would add that it's with the classic lineup. Which included Guitarist Peter Lindgren who was a huge part of the early song writing and style as well as Drummer Martin Lopez. Axe is a hell of a drummer but never played Lopez's parts with the same flow, groove and ferocity. This performance(Shepherd's Bush/Lamentations) IS Opeth at their peak.

55 year old bass player here. I was aware of Opeth when they came out, but I was taking a break from metal back then ( hangover from the 80s) , but still a prog lover. When the association with Steven Wilson and Porcupine Tree came on my radar about 15 years ago, I checked them out. Been hooked since. My favorite period is Still Life (99 I think) to the present.....

@@NormalGuyReacts I like what tool is up to now more than I do with Opeth, however. It figures they stop screaming in albums past 2010, but also seem to be losing their seemingly endless bucket of awesome riffs at the same time. Itruly believe they would have been hugely popular if they hadn't been death metal initially

Solid encore, some fans swear by this track. Live version lacks the pacing of the studio version, from what I experienced. Still a superb track though, you’re in for a wild journey with Opeth! If you want to go the other way and check out their more chill stuff that shows off Akerfeldt’s vocal chops and their musical talent, check out Faith in Others. Incredible track, oozes style. Or, for something a bit more blues-y, maybe Burden. Incredible groove and vocal work there, with some awesome acoustic de-touring end of track. Have to say I really appreciate your candid approach with input on these videos and I think it’s great that you have a musician background too! 👍👍 Probably been mentioned a ton of times by now too but: Steven Wilson produced this album. Worth checking out Porcupine Tree (band) also, if you’re intro prog and that kind of 70’s Pink Floyd-ish vibe that some of Opeth’s work is reminiscent of. Key tracks: Anesthetize Arriving Somewhere, But Not Here Studio versions are exceptional. Also superb live tracks. On that note, speaking of drummers haha. Look into Gavin Harrison. Absolutely beast. Tasteful, talented, lots of pedigree across multiple high profile bands.
